WEll I "only" made 12 days AF in February.....BUT.....that's double what I did in January emoticon

Who knows.....maybe I can double it again and have 24 AF days in March emoticon

.....but I'm not going to make any promises. That's when I feel crappy about myself because I "failed".

I'm going for only my 4th AF day this month. I've had a weird schedule lately - WAY too much to do on weekends, so that's when I DON'T drink.

LOLLYJEAN my blog post reflects a lot of what you said... it's all or nothing for me it seems so I'm working on my next "AF" Streak - wondering if I can beat the last record now 9 days!

AF so far 6 days this month and working on my 7th today!

KOWLEEN! You are doing amazing! That beer in Barbados will taste really good (and you'll probably only need one to feel the effects after abstaining for so long lol).

emoticon Kowleen!!!

but look out...I might just catch up to you emoticon

It seems so stupid that not drinking can be sooooo hard but yesterday was really hard.
After getting groceries I always stop at the beer store. After all it is right beside the grocery store...
It took all my willpower, and tromping on the gas peddle, to get past the beer store without going in. But I DID IT!!! and when my husband went out later and asked what size of a case I wanted him to bring me back I said "no thanks" (my head was shaking "yes" but I still said NO)

Anyway...I feel so much better for it this morning. I slept 8 1/2 hours without getting up 3 or 4 times and now I think I might actually be able to accomplish something today besides the bare minimum.

Hope you all have a happy Monday emoticon

Squee!! I am 1 week AF!

While I am very proud of myself for making it so far, I must admit that I am really looking forward to my first Banks beer in Barbados, on Monday February 15th. emoticon

January sucked for me and I only managed 6 AF days. I've never been able to drink in moderation...it's all or nothing...which translates to ALL! I don't want to say a goal number of days for February because I'll probably jinks myself.

I have decided (yet again) that I really need to get my act together both inside and out. So far this month I've had 5 days AF...yippee

Tonight my husband and I met some friends at a sports bar to watch basketball. I knew if I drank tonight I wouldn't meet my goal of 4 AF days per week. I ordered a diet coke and my food and had such a good time I really didn't miss the beer (maybe just a little bit). I made it through and, not only am I glad I met my goal, but I am clear headed and feel really good. I have a feeling that I will decide that tomorrow will be a day to have one or two for the Superbowl but now I know I can still have a good time even if I abstain!

So, last night was my first "social" challenge. I went to my best friend and husband's place. When Megan and I arrived, Ian asked me if I wanted a beer with my pizza. Just as I said, "I can't", my friend Megan said, "she can't." *lol* Ian looked at us so I explained that I was cutting back on my drinking and I was trying not to drink anything before I went to Barbados. Ian looked very impressed and said, "alright then. I won't have beer tonight either."

It's nice to know that I have friends who are going to support me through this. :)

Judyree, I don't think there's anything wrong with your modified goal. 12 moderation days and 16 AF days is still awesome! And way to go on your 4 day streak

Goals are being changed from every day in February to Monday through Thursday in Feb. So, I guess that's 12 moderation days and 16 AF days. I think I overestimated what I could jump into. Being AF 4 days in a row as I was this week was huge for me. So, instead of beating myself up for failing and not meeting my goal, I am going to be okay with it and move on with my tweaked goal.

Great job to all of you who are staying with your plan!

Made it AF today. That is three days this week so I know I can reach my goal of 4 days this week. Today I weighed in and I have lost about 3 pounds over the past week. I have been watching what I eat and exercise on a regular basis, but I think the reason for the amount of weight is the reduction in my alcohol intake.

3 days AF is a real accomplishment!! emoticon

Judyree, with all the other stuff you've given up, it's no wonder you're not feeling great...your body is likely detoxing - you can expect up to 5 or 6 days of 'icky' feelings (almost flu-like fatigue, achiness and just 'blech') before you feel better.

BUT - the great news us, you'll feel beyond better - you'll feel GREAT!

Thanks to all my team friends for their encouragement and pep talk! Last night was day 3 AF - WOO HOO! It was a little easier than the prior 2, but still on my mind constantly. I don't really feel better yet, and I have given up lots of other nasties, too... like coffee, all processed food, wheat, dairy... I think I'll be okay til Saturday/Sunday. That will really be a struggle. I think I'll rent some "chick flick" DVD's and have them on hand when I need to get my mind off it.

I am pleased to report that today is going much better. Normally at this time I am hankering for a glass of red. Today however, I'm not. I've got a cup of Red Rooibos tea beside and frankly, that's enough. :) I am feeling clear-headed, my headache is gone and I can't figure out why I've never tried to go AF sooner. My body is already thanking me. :)

At this point, I'm honestly not sure if my head IS clearer *lol* I am drinking a lot of herbal tea though....so I haven't even replaced my alcohol with caffeine. Yay me!

I realized that this weekend will be a real test of my will power. My mom is coming over for the weekend and she will probably want wine. However, I have committed to 13 days AF this month, and all of them before I go on vacation. So, she can have wine, and I will continue with my herbal tea.

SS - way to go on the 6 day streak :)

emoticon SS on your 6 day streak! I can't agree with you more, it does get easier. I too, drank 2-3 glasses of wine (sometimes more) daily for many years. Now I am on a 33 day AF streak and I feel better every day. You just have to want it bad enough. Good Luck to all this month - AF or Moderation, whatever is right for you emoticon

Judyree, Birdslaurie and Kowleen I have to add to MIMICOTO's post and say that it DOES get easier. From someone who drank daily for over 7 years to someone who is now on a 6 AF day streak an going strong.

Have you checked out the general discussion forum about favourite "Mocktails" - which was different drinks we have instead of our usual. It's all about changing your perceptions and changing your routine so that you plan to do other things when you would normally "have your drink". For me that's been just keep MOVING!

We're here to keep cheering you on!

emoticon Kowleen on 2 days AF (because I remember your very recent posts of how you were just moderating and look at you now!!)

Focus on the positives that come out of your AF days:
- your head is clearer
- you have more time to do productive things
- you don't waste calories
- you feel better and better every day...

The benefits keep adding up! Have a superb Wednesday Team!

Hello my fellow Canucks! I recognized the LCBO from my past life in that province. Pop quiz - I now frequent (rather less frequently ;-) the SAQ. Where do I live (not really tough, i know, with the Q and all ;-)

Kowleen, you must be Canadian and from Ontario, I recognize LCBO !! I haven't been to the LCBO since before the New Year.. still AF. Try this little trick, keep a rubber band on your wrist, and when you are thinking of having a drink, snap the band. It works for negative thoughts, so it should work for other thoughts.

Smile, and the world smiles with you !

Judyree, Birdslaurie and Kowleen - Hang in there....the first AF days are always always hard (especially if this is a new habit you are trying to form). You'll hear it from other people, but it really really does get easier.

At first, I subbed in a low or non-cal beverage that was 'similar' to my drink of choice. I love sparkling wine, so I 'needed' something cold and fizzy to get me through the witching hour.

Hang in there - you'll be so proud of yourselves tomorrow - and that will give you confidence to do it again the next day.....

We've all been there emoticon

I can report that I was AF today as well...2 days in a row. And I have to say, today was really hard. It still is. Part of me is tempted to hop on the bus and go to the LCBO (liquor store) and buy a bottle of wine.

I am so glad I have nothing alcoholic in the apartment. Because there would be a glass of it in front of me right now. :(

JUDYREE, I appreciate your last post, talking about the minute to minute challenge. I am really struggling tonight. This is my second day of tracking my food, calories burned etc. I have committed to 16 AF days this month. Right now my struggle is that I actually have about 150 calories to play with if I want and I immediately started thinking about a drink. I just don't want to go there but I am feeling really weak so it is minute to minute. I was thinking about making a cup of tea but I'm actually afraid if I go in the kitchen I will lose my resolve. Minute to minute...

Working on a "streak" of 2 days.. I hope that once I lose a few pounds, and/or physically feel better I will know WHY I am doing this. Until then I am just going minute to minute from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. I am never tempted to have a drink after I have eaten dinner...only before.

emoticon MIMICOTO... I'm not sure when I'll be ready for a full month but let's see where the day by day takes me (with the lessons I'm learning from the book). I know I'll be having drinks for the wedding reception the weekend of the 26th as I'll have out of town company I haven't seen in ages.

You've been doing great with streaks so I KNOW you can do it!

I've decided to make February a full month AF.

well, I know, it's kinda cheating since it's a short one! But, 28 days would be my longest streak - I think I'm ready and my body and mind need this.

Wish me luck!

The reason I was able to reach 8 AF days in Jan was that my DH did the goal along with me. He is willing to try it again. It is easier not to drink when partner does not drink either.

So February - Goal 8 AF days

I am going to pledge 28/28 AF Days for February. After my 31 days AF in January, I am going for AF for life. After many years of being addicted and unable to drink in moderation, being totally AF, although difficult, is the only choice for me right now.

I wish everyone on this team success in whatever you choose. Good Luck and a very Happy & Healthy February to all!

All goals shared are great ones! Whether you seek to be 100% AF or you choose to fit some AF days in the midst of moderate drinking days! This is what the challenge is all about - it's individual to each member and we will only offer support in what you feel you wish to reach!

Let's GO team!

my plan is to be AF the whole 28 days of Feb. I want to cut booze right out of my life, I am addicted to it, so I need to be totally free of it. I need to do this, because alcohol is not recommended for anyone who is a breast cancer survivor. Too many of my cancer survivor friends died this past year, and I don't want to be another one.

I am aiming for 20AF days for February. This was my original goal for January, and I have ended the month with 24AF days. Maybe I'll be able to sneak in a few extra AF days for February too.

It sounds like many of us are working toward a special event: anniversary or holiday or.... I will be going on holiday in March to an all inclusive resort. I imagine that will impact my AF days, but I hope to be well on the way with my moderation plan. The book I have been reading has really helped. I'm not sure why after years of struggle, moderation would seem so simple now. I think the key for me was one drink an hour, and no more than three drinks. Why would having that rule in mind make a difference? I don't know, but it has worked for the last three weeks. I am heading into week four of the plan. New things are added each week, but the rule I mentioned is the one that has helped me most. Anyway, I meant to say that I want to be comfortable in my swimsuit, so that will give me the extra motivation I need to keep exercising, watch what I am eating, and moderate the extra calories from wine.

Carol - I'm glad to hear that you are moving in a positive direction.

Judy - I totally understand your desire to be 100%AF. Good luck!

Heather

Hi Friends! I am so-o-o-o in for February being totally, 100% AF! This is huge for me..I don't think I have had 2 back-to-back AF days in 25 years (since I met DH). I probably haven't had more than 20 AF days total in that time for cry sakes!

Why am I going cold turkey you ask? Well, I have been talking about cutting down for ages, and just don't. When I am being "good" on my plan I include about 8 oz of wine on the tracker. And I find that is okay some of the time, then within a few days I start topping off the glass and then start raiding the cupboard before dinner. ugh! Back to square one.

I am leaving on a cruise on 3/2 (and plan to drink but not go crazy as on prior cruises) and want to fit into some of my clothes. But, more than that we are going to see my father-in-law at the end of March who we haven't seen since I added another 20 lbs to my already large bod. I don't want to embarrass my DH.

So, for the month of Feb I am doing a detox cleanse, and AF is a must! After that I wish to cut down for the rest of my life. I hope that the good feelings I'll get from being AF during Feb will be motivation for me to continue being sensible about putting poison in my body day after day.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Judy

Aloha everyone!

I've been away, not AF, but very moderate. Best news is that finally, finally I am leaving the Mr and have found a beautiful place to live (not an easy task out here in the sticks).

He wants and has offered to help me move, but I've decided I want a "Mr Free" environment in the new place....so the last 3 days and next 5 are all about packing and moving. Oh, yeah, still have to work! LOL.

There's little chance I'll be AF for the first half of February and that's not being negative, just honest. At least after all the packing, hauling, moving, unpacking, re-organizing, adjusting to living alone - there will be peace.

After the upheaval and settle, I can concentrate on living the life I should have been living! Not to mention the last 35 pounds. WooHoo!

KOWLEEN - we will be here to support your efforts!

FLORENCE4 - the first day is the hardest... and then it just gets easier.

When is your birthday Elizabeth? Want to make sure I don't miss it!

Doobrie - setting a goal you think you'll reach is great!

I know I posted that I was going for 15 but with the reading of this book... I wonder if I can hold off on drinks until the special occasion February 27th (wedding reception).

Then I realized... if all goes according to plan I'll be leaving for Floriday the 2nd week of March!

emoticon

I must say that after a few days of being AF and getting a clear head and doing so much in the house with projects that I had been putting off for so long - it makes me wonder why I'm not AF even more often! I get SOOO much done.

Since I now have a clean financial slate, I rid myself of about 10lbs of old files. I am now working on setting up a new clean system. Man it feels GREAT!!

I am going to try something ambitious....

I leave for Barbados on February 14 and will be there until March 1...so I know I will be drinking there.

My goal is to be AF every day before I leave. Ambitious? You bet! Am I scared by it? Absolutely! Am I out of my mind, thinking I can go 13 days in a row with nothing to drink? Quite possibly! *lol* But I sure am going to try.

Well, as I didn't get anywhere near my goal for January, I've decided to be easy on myself for February and make my goal 10 AF days. I'm hoping I can build up as the months go by this year.

I'd like to wish everyone a very good February too.

February 1st and the beginning of a new month and new week! It's our short month of the year, so what are your plans for this month of "heart health"? emoticon

I know Valentine's is in there too (although I don't have a DH/partner) I believe in all matters of the heart and taking time to express love to those around you in special ways... but I want to remind you to be kind to yourself and express that same love and care towards your own 'self', your own body!

I had pledged 15 days AF for January (and aimed to do that for each month). I ended the month with 14 days so I feel very good about this!

My pledge for this month is to hit my mark target of 15 at the very least. As I read the book by Allen Carr (The Easy Way to Stop Drinking - and avoiding the 'alcohol trap') I must say I'm inspired and truly picturing that craving in a different way.

As always, I'd like to have you share you plans for the month.

Wishing the most wonderful team in the world all the very best for the month ahead!

Warmth and well wishes to all...

Your co-leader, Helene emoticon
