Okay so as of the 20th - I vow to make the rest of September AF making it 11 days for the month (and the start of another 10 day streak). I'm hoping to actually stretch it out into October!

Well I too drank last night. But so far tonight I have not had anything to drink. Taking it one day at a time.

Checking in to fess up - last night was not AF for me. I'm not too too bugged though as it was entirely social and we had a wonderful time with great friends.

I will be back on track tomorrow as I have a 1/2 bottle of extremely good champagne in the fridge that I cannot throw out.....

Props to all of you who are staying the course!

Thanks for the boost everyone!

Reverie2 - I admire your resolve. As I've mentioned on this thread before, my family is 1/2 French (wine-makers from Bordeaux, no less) and many of our good friends have a similar background. So it's extra weird when I don't drink - and honestly, I really enjoy good wine - can't blame it all on the others!

Good luck tonight, Mimi! That's the hardest time not to drink wine - hanging out with friends. I just want to go September without drinking - just to do what I said I would, for once! - and then I'll go back to my original goal of once a week. Then I'll raise a toast to you for helping. :)

emoticon Florence4 and Reverie2 !!!!

I'm not so sure how I'll do tonight - our non-drinking friends cancelled dinner this evening, and our best friends (who we do so enjoy raising a glass with) are taking their place.

We'll see we'll see.... emoticon

Yay us! Went to a fundraiser last night with a close friend. Open bar even, but I made it! I think if I can get through book group I can get through anything. :)

Hey! Totally thrilled to be checking in AF this Friday night... and it was easier than I thought. Just didn't put anything in the fridge - and said no to all the other offers.

If only it were always so struggle-free!

Don't sweat it Florence4....progress not perfection :-)

BTW, I have read posts from other members of this team that returning to regular sleep patterns can be an issue when you start cutting back on alcohol. Personally, I have the complete opposite problem - I get very very bad insomnia if I drink more than 2 glasses! emoticon

Okay - so what's the plan for tonight? Friday's can be bad.....I don't have anything planned, but will need to break the news to DH that he'll be cocktailing alone (again) tonight emoticon

Not that this *should* make any difference to me, but it does.....we have 'always' done Friday date nights - and that almost always includes a few glasses of wine.

Anyway - what are you other challengers thinking about for tonight?

emoticon Reverie2!

It was great that you posted b/4 you went to your book club. Believe it or not it helped me get through tonight....I was AF but it was a squeaker. DH brought home a bottle of my favorite and I reeeeaaalllly wanted some...for about 30 minutes. A good reminder that cravings do pass if you just hang on sometimes...and the power of sharing your experience with others!

4 day streak - 5/9 (first time I've been over 50% this early in the month in I don't know how long!

Yep, made it through book group.

And definitely, I don't think anyone "should" do this challenge. I just really wanted to and was hoping someone else would do it with me. That's why I'm glad we have a separate thread though - thanks again, Mimi!

Well said Mamabugg! And SeptSpirit - don't sweat it that you're not jumping on it this month.....Mama is right - it is NOT all or nothing!

Challenges are great, but sometimes they can have the undesired effect of making folks feel like they are 'less than' or not doing well enough, even if they are meeting their own goals (well, that's been my experience anyway!!!!). That really shouldn't be the case as honestly, I view simply showing up and 'wanting' to make healthier choices as a major step in the right direction!

One of my dear SP-friends reminded me more than once that this team is 'Cutting Back' - NOT 'Cutting Out'.

If it interests anyone other than myself, I jumped on this challenge b/c I really feel it's what I need right now...I sincerely hope I can achieve the objective, but even if I don't I'm sure I'll have more AF days than I would have otherwise....and this is something that I have to to for myself at this stage....

emoticon to all my awesome team-mates!

Keep it up girls. You are doing awesome. I am not going to join you this month as I have too much going on but maybe in the future. I tried this last year and got frustrated so dont get frustrated even if you have a little slip at some time in the month it is not over. It is not all or none.It is a lifestyle change.
Sweet dreams tonight Flo.

Hi Everyone,
Day 2 AF, still can't fall asleep at night till like 2am and get up early. Hopefully sleep will come easier while I try for day 3. Also when I wake up I still feel groggy like I did drink but it does not last as long as the morning goes on.
Take care all,
Flo emoticon

emoticon Florence4! And welcome back SeptSpirit!

How's everyone doing?

Logged another AF day today - 3 day streak, 4/8 for the month.

DH finished a big stage in a project. He's been working insane hours and not drinking....he immediately celebrated with exactly ONE drink (how do they do that???) and I was not even tempted to join him. Helps that I'm not keeping my favorite in the house at the moment.

Dinner guests this weekend...non-drinkers !!! emoticon

Thanks, Mimicoto! I'm psyched about this challenge - took oldest DD out to dinner tonight and would have loved a glass of wine, but I thought, "well, I just suggested this challenge, I can't blow it off now." And I'm SO glad I skipped the wine. I just want to be able to say "I'm going to be AF in September" - and actually do it.
