Ending this challenge on a high emoticon ... as in highest trend weight and scale weights experienced in nearly 2 years. Some of the averages are higher than I've seen in 4-5 years. And, there is no apparent end in sight to the upward trend that has been underway since early October.

I know there are multiple underlying medical conditions impacting the weight. I am doing what I can with what I have where I am and the weight is going to be what the weight is going to be.

Ironically, despite weight fluctuation (essentially to the upside) in excess of 10.5% and increases in the challenge average of roughly 5.25%, I have not quite yet seen a scale weight within what's considered a 'normal' BMI.

So, in certain regards, it is nice to see the weight trend come up out of the basement. Unfortunately, it is not occurring in a healthy manner. I am experiencing an autoimmune attack and it's concomitant symptoms: inflammation, connective tissue challenges, cognitive impairment and digestive challenges.

Expect it to eventually sort itself out and realistically know that it could take years. It's already been underway for 5+ months. So, onward to the Limerick Challenge I go!

Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

I ended this one well, things have been challenging as of late. I feel like I want to eat all of the time and sometimes choices haven't been healthy. I have always made sure to have good snacks handy and have been trying to have some things handy for actual small meals. That has helped. I've been doing this for a long time now, I know the process, just need to make sure I follow said process! I am still running and doing yoga and have finally been able to reincorporate some strength training into my schedule.

Nell, Happy to hear you are getting some support and your appetite has improved.

Gill, Understand the worry associated with Covid-19. Suspect the unknown nature of it and the somewhat chaotic release of information (speaking from my point of view regarding what's occurring in the U.S.) has contributed to the anxiety some folks are experiencing.

The San Francisco Bay Area (which is where we live) has been the hardest hit region of California thus far. I have relatives on the front lines in the health care industry. One at a university medical center and another is the director of a senior living facility (assisted living and a memory care unit). Their anxieties are running kind of high.

Stephanie,

You're welcome! Glad the challenges are supporting you. That's the goal: supporting each other in learning what our maintenance experience means to us.

Yes. The end of the Landline Day Challenge is fast approaching and we will roll immediately into the Limerick Day Challenge.

Onward we go ...

And, I chuckled when I read your apology. Why? Have you seen some of my long-winded posts?! No need to apologize, lady. It's great to hear from challengers.

It really does warm my heart to know the challenges are supporting your efforts and things are clicking for you.

@SWEET_CAROLYN - I totally agree with you! This is only my second challenge with this team and it's working quite well. Big thanks to EVERYBODY, but especially @BAPEARMAN and @JEANKNEE for their work in keeping the challenges going.

Hope to see everybody in this next round (Limerick Challenge, I believe, without looking).

I believe this is the last week, and may I just say, this has got to be one of the best challenges I have ever done! Did I lose a ton of weight? Absolutely not. Did I regain a ton of weight? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I have spent so much of my life struggling with my weight, and I could never understand people when they were like, "And one day, it just clicks and you find what works for you and you work it." Well, here I am, nearing my 2 year anniversary of starting this journey (1 year of staying around that 185 number), and I seem to have found the secret! I found something that clicked with me, and I'm working it. I eat real food, I occasionally enjoy myself, I'm running again, I have a life that (when I'm not sick) I enjoy.

Sorry for the essay here; I feel like this was just such a breakthrough moment for me and I had to share! Thank you ALL for letting me join you on this journey!

If you would like to remain as an unofficial challenger and continue to have your statistics calculated, please SparkMail JEANKNEE with the weight and date of the missed weigh-in. Otherwise, feel free to keep us posted on the forum thread, and join us in the next one!

Thank you for the advice, Jeanne, POINDEXTRA and MIAMIRN!
I have some reasons why, but I'll do systematic thinking as you suggested.
For instance, I didn't think of meds but now I realize I started taking Vitamin B tablets last year then stopped early January.

I suggest going down Jean's list with a fine-tooth comb. It's solid and practical.

If I were to put a numerical value on what was my biggest vulnerability it would be sleep and emotional stress, both internal and external.

Of course, other things on the list play a part. They all interact with each other and change in rank.

Thanks!

132 lbs emoticon

My set point is again stuck on 132-134 lbs. I'm not sure it really is important at this time or not. I would like to get down to 125 lbs (my normal from when I was in my 20's) and stabilize at 130. 130 lbs would include a healthy build-up of muscle mass. I believe 125 lbs believe is my normal, not including healthy muscle mass.

I have been working on building up my muscle mass for the past three weeks religiously. I have lost a considerable amount of muscle mass in the past 3 months due to being inactive after major abdominal surgery. This does not include the past two years of muscle wasting. But in the last 3 months, I have seen a drastic visible negative loss in muscle mass. I am not sure whether my surgeon's order for me to stay inactive from December to March 14th is right or not. I understand the first month of being inactive. After that, I have disagreed. Nevertheless, I cooperated with my doctor's orders out of caution.

I did speak with my doctor last month at my appt. she gave me clearance to do some mild activities, but none involving my torso (especially abdomen). And no swimming due to (self-absorbing) vaginal stitches till March 4th. I agree to not swim till the first week in March. Enough is enough! I have taken upon myself you listen to my own body signals and do what I feel my body, mind, and heart say is safe and practical. Anyway, I digress. Lol.

My point is I have no idea how much muscle weight is increasing and what fat weight in decreasing. I think it's too early to tell. I will give it a month more. Every day I feel my body is getting stronger and stronger. My immune system is doing well, considering I am in a new country with a new environment. I am adapting VERY well, indeed! Btw, I am starting swimming this weekend. Enought is enough! I see my doctor this coming weekend. I believe she will be very pleased with my progress. She is one of the most excellent doctors I have ever met. Believe me, I am extremely critical of doctors as I am a medical professional (retired) myself.

Thanks!

Kriszta,

Not sure if the question is truly a question or not. If it is, possible considerations:

1. change in nutritional intake
2. change in physical activity
3. change in hydration
4. change in sleep
5. change in stress
6. perimenopausal onset
7. reduced carbohydrate tolerance which appears to be a natural occurrence as we age, meaning our carbohydrate intake may need to be adjusted from time-to-time
8. underlying health condition (hypothyroidism?)
9. additions/changes to medication
10. additions/changes to nutritional supplements
11. additions/changes to personal care products

There are so many factors that can impact our weight. So, give this list of things some consideration, if you're not aware of the underlying cause.

Goal weight:
59 +- 1 kg /// 130 +-2 pounds
CET (Europe, Hungary)

Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

Had a great vacation, got 150,000 steps! Walked all over four Disney parks for four days, did a 10k and a half marathon. Food was abundant, including desserts, but I suspect that all of that activity kept things in check. Now I won't be as active so I need to be more conscientious of my intake. It would be easy to go up, especially with work stress like it is right now.

Today's actual 122.8
Trending 121.5

After seeing some green in the Hacker's Diet Trend Analysis Chart earlier in the month, all trends have returned to the upside with this morning's weigh in.

We know the thyroid is not functioning properly and suspect the rice protein is what damaged it (autoimmune attack). Also realize (having been through this before) that it will likely take months to years to stabilize the thyroid and the weight. So, in the meantime, keep making the best choices I know how and enjoy the ride.

Happy Leap Year!

It is absolutely appropriate to call consistency and stable weight a non-scale victory. At least in my book it is!!

Great work, Carolyn!!!

Keep listening to, trusting and responding as best you can to body guidance. Don't be surprised to see that desired downward trend when you least expect it.

Part of me had hoped this challenge would help me lose more weight - but you know, I've kept ridiculously consistent and for that I'm also ridiculously proud! Not sure if it's appropriate, but I call this a Non-Scale Victory!

3rd day in the 120s after 2 days in the 121s. My innards have felt much less sluggish after stopping the oral antihistamines, and this is the proof. It's amazing what certain meds can do to us!

I am using the Hacker's Diet Online ("How to lose weight and hair through stress and poor nutrition," and not to be confused with the myriad other Hacker's Diet web sites) web site to calculate my trending weight. I will use the reading for the Wednesday of each week as the official weight for this challenge, regardless the day I post or how many times or what days I weigh myself during the week.

Target weight: 128 (range: ?)

Week 1 : Wed 01/08/2020 - 128.4

Today's actual 123.2
Trending 121.2

The body is undergoing another push to the upside with the trend weight increasing nearly a pound in the last week. Honestly, don't know what to make of it. I guess it could be the pea protein. Simply continuing to watch it and ride the cresting wave feeling no need to respond with a restriction in nutritional intake.

The pea protein was introduced on February 18 and used again on the 19th and 20th. It was not used on the 21st and 22nd. Used it again on the 23rd. So, it was used 4 times in the past 7 days.

I may give it another week of testing before checking in with the clinical nutritionist.
