Day 27 complete! It was a tough one too, my Dad took our family out for dinner at Boston Pizza and I resisted their whole desert menu, actually had a kids fruit cup instead. It felt good to stick to my guns on this one. Keep up the good work my friend! Hey, I started a jump in any time cut out the sugar challenge on this team, there are more people over there, check it out, and join in over there instead, there is even more support if that is what helps you!

Hi guys! Feel free to jump in anytime, I think I might even repost the challenge for anyone anytime. I am still going strong, 23 days of no junk food sugar. I am still having Kraft peanut butter, it is a cheap protein, and I eat Jam. Also, I had some Maple Syrup on my pancakes over the weekend. The last couple of days, I have really been wanting to eat sugary treats again, but I have resisted. Once I hit the 3 week mark, it is just not worth breaking my streak over 1 Oreo or prepackaged cookie junk. I have been turning to sodium when my cravings hit though. A lot of salsa and tostitos, crispy minis, salty soya beans, even potato chips. I have been trying really hard to break that habit too. One of the things I have been turning to is fresh veggies, they satisfy my crunchy desire without all of the sodium in the stuff I was turning to. I really want to live a healthy lifestyle, and it will come a little bit at a time.

I am sad I missed this challenge until it was over :( But I thought I would share my sugar journey!

Originally I removed High Fructose Corn Syrup from my families diet and I could tell a huge difference from that and sugar, my cravings went down... we did that for a year, and then a few weeks back I completely removed anything from my diet that had sugar added, you would be surprised when you start reading labels that there are a lot of options, I made my own bread with honey instead of sugar. We ate a lot of beans and I wish I had discovered hummus when I was doing this in the past, my go to snack when I was craving something was my homemade salsa and one portion of corn chips made without sugar.

Goddess if you do this again I am in!

That is totally me, as soon as I allow myself something sugary, I am on a binge. I go crazy on the stuff. Now that I have gone 2 weeks without any sugary "treats", I don't miss it that much. I do find myself turning to carbs a lot more, there is sugar in there, but I need to do better with that because it is not helping with the weight loss.

I haven't taken all sugar out of my diet, but I have found that refined sugar triggers my appetite like nothing else. Eating a cookie just makes me want more; I find myself in the bed that evening hungry and craving more sugar. I have heard people say that stuff like Splenda and Stevia does the same thing to them, as if it is a mental trigger, but I do not seem to have that problem. Only real refined sugar makes me crave more.

I am not being super strict. My biggest problem with sugar is the "treats". Things like cookies, candy, donuts, french vanilla cappuccino, hot chocolate with tons of marshmallows, all that kind of stuff. So, that is what I have cut out when I talk about no sugar. I am not too worried about added sugar in the foods I eat at this point, because eating those things doesn't send me off the deep end into bingeville. For me, 12 days now of no sweets, I feel fantastic! I don't eat artificial sweeteners, but I find I do drink them. Diet pop, crystal lite, fruit juices with splenda added, that kinda stuff. HTH!

Can you describe for me how strict you are? I am assuming you are not having any refined white sugar, are you super strict in not eating things like breads that contain sugar? I tried this but felt it was a bit too restrictive. Do you eat artificial sweetners? Thanks and great job!

This is so great! I'm working on doing the same thing, but I don't think I can go cold turkey. I'm starting with refined sugars/processed foods, and seeing where I get. There's a lot of sugar hiding in food, so it's hard. But you're an inspiration, Goddess!

As far as cutting out ALL sugar - seems very hard, but I'm game for the challenge! Thank goodness my monthly visitor is almost over - that's definitely a very tough time for me to resist a sugar urge. emoticon

I started to cut out sugar about 10 days ago, the first 3 days I had a headache and was irritable. I feel great now, just never realized how much sugar I took in. I have a sweet tooth so now I have an Atkins bar when I want something sweet.

I am an all or nothing kinda girl. Once I start, I cannot stop. So, for right now, I am going with the nothing approach. It has worked for me in the past, as long as I don't slip up.

sugar every once in a while is not a bad thing. I have a recipe for brownies that are 45 calories. I have to have a little sugar or I would crash my diet into the wall and run away.
