I think there's a significant difference between staying active and concentrated exercise, but this article offers some great suggestions to counteract a lot of our little indulgences. I'm all for getting off the couch and moving! Report
Went for a walk after the meal with my husband and father-in-law. Got me up to over 10,000 steps for the day. and made me feel a lot better! Now if I hadn't eaten that slice of pumpkin pie! Report

loved this article - suddenly I felt that I was taking exercise most of the day. I wonder how many calories are used up in looking after a busy toddler? ironing? washing windows? gardening? painting? I suspect sparkpeople have the answer. What a great resource you are. Tattycorum Report
Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone! Sure been busy around the kitchen so good to know I am burning calories. Will be taking a walk shortly while the turkey is in the oven. ...and another walk after dinner. Keep moving is the key for me for the Holidays! Report
Happy Thanksgiving. Simple steps to make a real difference. I'm on my way to the gym before guest arrive. Report
Makes one aware of the calories we burn in everyday tasks. But you know what!!! I have always been very active and overweight. Those chores didn't make me thin. Getting extra exercise and counting calories has taken off the weight. I'm down another lb. today! HAPPY THANKSGIVING Report
Hey everyone Happy Thanksgiving, I really liked this article! I never knew just doing day to day things like carrying groceries, grocery shopping, and cooking could amount to a lot of calories being burned. If that's the case besides working out last night I baked pies and that took 2 hours so boy I burned a lot doing that. Another thing I do on purpose is park my car really far so I can walk more. Well everyone have great day now, Report

Yes, the little things do add up. Hopefully I will make a point to tally some calories burned at the end of the day.
Happy Thanksgiving. Report
I really enjoyed this article. I always find that i burn more calories on days when im cleaning my house or getting prepared for guests than days when I go to the gym for an hour. Report
I really like this article. I never realized that I burn so much calories doing the things I usually do! Report

i did Christmas shopping for 3 hours and figured that it's pretty equivalent to 1.5 hours of grocering shopping with a cart and was thrilled to figure that i burned off about 219 calories! and to know that every time i go grocery shopping i'm burning calories. i had know idea how these little things could add up! Report
I am very pleased with seeing this. Many times we are burning calories and don't even realize it. I love having these 'other' calorie burner lists to check with. It is definitely in my favorites! Report
I too am grateful for the list -I am rarely still, often exhausted adn didn't find anything to help with my 'cardio' totals for the day - now I work it out I am burning off far more than I eat - nearly three times more, so how come I have 40lbs of excess weight? I drink twice ayear ( birthday and christmas glass of wine!) I eat when I remember (yes, I hear you cry, thats the key!) struggle to get to 1200 calories a day.....diets for me are a nightmare as I simply can't eat enough to fulfil the calorific requirements!

Well at least now I can start to calculate where I burn calories, mayeb the key here is to sit down and do nothing at times! Report
