Hope Guards Me Fiercely

Hope drives me forward. Keeps me intentional. Fuels strength and determination. Each day, I bump up against a multitude of potential hope saboteurs. Sometimes, a hope saboteur is overt. Like, the scale is up from last week, or, I cannot fit into the jacket I wanted to be wearing by now. I spy the potential of being bombarded with negative thoughts quickly and I strike them down swiftly and purposefully. Other times, a hope saboteur is more covert. Like, I have way too much weight to lose, or, most people who lose weight gain it all back anyway. Or, everyone else is celebrating and eating birthday cake - you're being deprived. Why do you have to be punished by missing out on just doing whatever you want? It sneaks up on me stealthily and in tiny increments moves me towards hopelessness. I don't even realize I am in the mire of despondency until it's halfway up my knees. This is the time when hope is my fierce rescuer. I may reach toward it with trembling hands, but it grasps me mightily and pulls me out with strength that is unflinching and full of truth. It decimates the lie that pulled me down. It resets my brain and points me towards a greater vision for my life. Hope equips me with what is true about my journey. It doesn't white wash over the hard facts, like, losing weight is hard work. It does take discipline. It can take a long time. There are set backs. But it couches facts within healthy perspective. Hope keeps the momentum moving forward. It gives the vision that inspires the goal and it gives the fuel to accomplish the vision. It's the lamp on the path, it's the buffer between pressing on and giving up. It's the voice in the darkness. It's the whisper during the day. Hope guards me fiercely.
