Secrets of Success

Look Back And Celebrate!

Once in a while look back at all the things you are doing right and honestly acknowledge them. It can be amazing all the little good habits that creep into your life without your even realizing it until you look back at how things used to be. My realization came when I took the time to look back at the goals I set at the beginning of the year (walk with my friend at least 4 days/week - we walk 6 days most weeks; eat more fruits and vegetables - I have become almost vegetarian! Most days I have 6 or more servings of f & v.) My focus has become less on doing the things I am "supposed" to do and more on doing the things that make me feel content and happy. I find that this change in focus has made me feel much more relaxed and less obsessed with "becoming" something - I'm not even sure I knew what!

If I hadn't taken the time to look back this morning, I may never have had this realization of fulfillment and success. This doesn't mean everything is perfect or that the goals have all been reached, but it makes the future seem so bright. It was an enormous "pick-me-up".

So, I do think that looking at where you have been and even small changes that have happened can trigger ever more small changes. Old habits are hard to break and can't be broken in 21 days. It takes lots of "do-overs" and falling down and getting up, and realizing the things that work for you, and choosing to change one small thing at a time. So, are you drinking more water, or avoiding the fast food place that used to pull you in, or not bringing ice cream home anymore, or parking farther away, or playing with the kids more? Think about it you have positive successes - actually being part of the Spark community is a big step in the right direction - and the more you acknowledge that, the more you will trigger future success!

This made me look at my changes....not just the numbers, but the habits I've formed and didn't even consider. This was quite motivating. Thanks. - by CD22562937
