Build Up Walking Time Safely

I find this works well to easily build up walking time and distance. As we all have heard, regular walking will add years to your life span. It is also an exercise most doctors will allow almost any patient to do. It is probably one of the most safest and easiest exercises to do. I recommend buying good supportive walking shoes too. Do not walk in sandals or flip flops. You will have sore feet and, again, stop the walking. This is really the only expense of walking, but well worth the money.

If you try to go too far too quickly you will get sore and discouraged. You will soon stop the walking. Most people try to do too much to soon. Work smarter and not harder if you want to succeed. No pain, no gain is out. Use my easy walking more method and you will find that you really enjoy walking more.

If you are new to walking start by walking from your home to first mailbox or house. Next walk go to next mailbox or house. Each walk add a mailbox or house. Do this 4 to 6 times a week. Easy way to get to walking longer.

If already exercising, go to what you normally do (i.e. 1 mile) and then go to next mailbox or house. Every walk after that go to next mailbox or house. Do this 4 to 6 times a week.

I use this often, especially if I haven't walked for a while. My blood pressure stays under control if I walk and I notice my good cholesterol go up if I walk regularly. So it is not a good idea for me to stop walking. However, stuff happens in life. I have tried to walk too far too quickly and have been very sore. Not a good idea.

You could also do this in a mall. Use stores instead of mailboxes or houses. It truly works and you will not be sore or discouraged from doing too much walking too soon.

Happy, safe walking! emoticon

Always do some gentle stretches after a walk. Gently hold a stretch for 15 to 30 seconds. This will also help the soreness.

  • I started walking 3 years ago on my 60th birthday. At first I could barely make it around the block without hurting. Today I wake up at 5 AM and walk for 3 miles 5 days a week. I feel so much better. - by MAINSTREETGAL
