I never thought that I would ever be obese, nor did I think it would be difficult to lose weight. A lifestyle change is definitely in order. By 7/17/12 I am 227 pounds and feeling much healthier these days. I don't know if I still qualify as obese, but of course I'm still overweight. What I've learned about healthy living makes this journey well worth the sacrifice I have made so far. 8/30/12 I am 220 lbs. and my clothes no longer fit me well. My wife has joined me on the road to fitness which helps me tremendously. 1/31/13 I am 214 pounds and very hopeful that I will reach my goal of 200 pounds by the end of February. 5/6/13 Well I'm back up to 218 with a 5K on the horizon, but there is a good chance that I will only walk in it. I told my wife that if she will walk in it that I would walk with her. I prepared to run in this 5K, but it's more important to me that she is with me during this journey then reaching some personal time goal. (at the most I could shave about 5 minutes off last years time).
6/26/13-I actually did shave more then 5 minutes off the 5K run. I ran it in 38 minutes. I also continued to step up my running as a workout tool running 6 days straight and dropping 5 lbs.
I don't see running as a lifestyle change (although maybe it is for now), because I don't think that it is sustainable over the years as we get older. I would like to see some really great meals added to my nutrition. This is what I think will be the best lifestyle change for this tinman.
On 1/29/14 I joined another program to help me on this journey; a popular one that cost per weekly session. I had to laugh when I went to their website. I am convinced that Sparkpeople is a very special community that others would clearly like to duplicate (but can't). Anyway, I hope that this program gives me renewed interest in this journey.
2/19/14-it is clear that I have to learn and apply the principles of healthy living. Lately I have not been doing much of either. I've heard others say that sometimes life gets in the way of this journey, but I say that it's all part of the journey. My marriage, my children (all adults), my job and more all impact my emotions, sometimes in a way that hinders or helps me on the road to good health. 3/12/15 I'm not sure if I have really returned after 366 days away, but it sure felt good to log in.
6/16/20 Wow, what a ride this has been. I never thought that I would see a pandemic in my lifetime, but here I am back at SP, and back on track to lose weight for my health again. I am fiftyish now and my goals are not exactly the same. Since the last time on SP in 2012, I have had to hernia surgeries. I am not pleased with the results, so I am reducing my wait in hopes of keeping this beluga belly from pressing against the hernia causing discomfort.
My lovely wife Jeanette is still by my side (this is our 39th year of marriage) and she also is back on SP.

My Goals:
I would like to one day weigh 190 lbs. which was my best weight when I was in the military. I would like to have a lot of new and healthy meals added to my daily menu. I would like to encourage my children to live healthy lifestyles. (Ha, more then ten years later this still sounds good to me).

My Program:
My wife and I attend the local health club 3 times a week. I run 3 times a week when the weather permits. I keep emergency foods on hand at home so that I don't have a calorie meltdown when I come through the door after work. (6/16/20 none of this has held true...for years lol.)

Personal Information:
I am a Tinknocker (not it's professional name-do the research:) by trade and I have been all of my adult life. I adore my wife of more then 30 years and we have 3 darling children that are now grown. I am a man of faith that gives God all of the praise for what he has done for me. ( I am nearing the end of my tinknocking career here in 2020, yet I am even more grateful to God for his faithfulness.)

Other Information:
If I can help you, I would like to very much. If I have insulted you, I promise that it was not intentional. If I failed to encourage you, please give me another chance. I want us all to succeed at this. (2020 update, amen to that!)
