Hi, I'm Annette the Golden Lady - I'm an animal lover and I have four golden retrievers. I was diagnosed with diabetes about 15 years ago (but it think it's more like 25 years ago) and have been struggling with my weight all my life. 2007 was a heartbreaking year for me...I lost my sister in January to cancer, my mom in July to kidney disease and my cousin to a massive heart attack in October. I've been overweight since I could walk.
Ok, so that's now over and in the past.
If anyone remembers me, I've struggled in making the decision to have Weight Loss Surgery. When my endocrinologist told me that it was WLS or insulin, I knew it was getting serious. It took me almost four years of research before he said that and about 10 months after to FINALLY make the decision to be HEALTHY.
I had surgery on January 31, 2011 and it was the turning point of my life!! I am now over a year out from surgery I am no longer on any diabetic or cholesterol meds and due to a bout of dehydration I was taken off my high blood pressure med in October!
If anyone thinks this is the "easy way out" you are 100% CORRECT!! It was easy!! I've never lost so quickly and with such little effort, except of course counting protein grams and liquid intake. Now, after a year, the tuff part begins!! Although I still cannot eat too much at one sitting, I find myself "grazing", on healthy stuff, but nonetheless, "grazing" which can cause excessive calorie intake, which can cause weight gain. However, I'm not done yet. I would like to lose another 10 pounds but at 147 I am happy, healthy and skinny. I work my butt off going to exercise classes and walking the hills of my neighborhood.
I'm hoping all of my Spark Friends are doing well.

My Goals:
To be healthy and have my BS under control. I've decided to NOT be obsessed with the scale. If I lose weight because of my lifestyle change, so be it.
And after all of this is done, I will stop smoking (but that's another website!)

My Program:
Three meals a day with small, healthy snacks in between. Very low carbohydrate (bread, pasta, rice). If I do have them they will all be brown!
Exerecise!! HELP ME!

Personal Information:
My name is Annette and I'm from Holland Township, NJ. It's right on the Delawre River separating Pennsylvania from New Jersey. I moved out here about seven years ago. It's farm country but not like Iowa. I'm a real estate agent who's been trying to get started in this business for three years now. Now that the market has changed to a buyer's market, I'm expecting to do well. (Positive attitude.)

Other Information:
I absolutely LOVE Golden Retrievers. I have four. Mother-daughter, Mother-daughter. We are hoping to breed the youngest one in the Spring. I work with a breeder and I do the "whelping" which means, I deliver puppies. And I LOVE IT!!!

Hi bruanne, I appear to be posting after myself I am sorry to be a pain.
I have been posting to a lot of the chit chat amd just for laughs. I looked back on the chit chat and the posts were discussing blood sugars and acrb counting.
Today i went to the Dr I had such a good A1c alt time it was 5.9 one month later it is 5.7. I am off my metformin now for the whole month. I aske him if that meant I am no longer diabetic and he said yes because my early morning blood sugars are over 110 sometimes 120.
This actually has a slight up side to it because that means I can continue to monitor my blood sugar and get A1c every 3 month. That will keep me in very tight control. I started the last day of january with spark and in 3 months lost close to 15 pounds and got my a1c this low. This is such a big deal and I owe it all to tracking all of my food.
Thanks for listening Pat in Maine.
