I’ve been overweight pretty much my entire life. Looking back, I look pretty normal through the early years; it was around age 8 when I became aware that I was fat. As I became chubbier came promises of a growth spurt and long, lean figure that would accompany puberty. Puberty came and went - the model-like figure never came with it. And why would it have? I hated sports, never exercised and had horrible eating habits. I loved fast food, ice cream, chips and carbs.

Over the years I tried a lot of diets. The first diet I remember joining was Jenny Craig in 7th grade. I was too ashamed of my JC meals to take them to school so I would eat rice cakes at lunch and then warm up my meal when I came home from school. I stuck with it for two months and then quit. Through high school and college I tried a lot of things to lose weight - pescetarianism, extreme workouts, SlimFast, Suzanne Summers diets, Atkins, South Beach, Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, Hydroxycut, some liquid you drank at night to help you burn fat in your sleep. They all worked for a little while, until I stopped seeing results, quit and gained all the weight back.

I found SparkPeople in January of 2006. I was at my highest weight ever. I was miserable and I needed a fix, fast. SP didn’t offer a fast fix. They wanted me to count calories, track exercises and do all of these stages. I abandoned SP and went back to WW and their Points system. I 100 Calorie pack and WW bread myself silly until I lost 15lbs getting me back to around 200lbs. I did WW off and on for a while.

In 2008 I completed the Couch to 5k Program and started running. After all, runners were skinny right? I lost another 10 lbs, getting down to 190. January 2009 I was back at 200lbs after all the holiday eating. I discovered the book YOU: On a Diet and everything clicked for me. I came back to the Spark realized my path toward a healthy life. I made little changes: cut out HFSC and transfats, started choosing only whole grains, and started tracking on the Spark. I ran a half marathon in January 2010 and slowly, with some ups and downs, I lost 30lbs for my wedding in May 2010. After the wedding I got lazy - I ate what I wanted, didn’t track and didn’t exercise. When I stepped on the scale in Oct 2010 and saw 190 (thankfully water weight) I got the wake up call I needed. Why was I wasting all of that hard work?! So I came back to SP with a vengeance.

Now, not only do I track everything on SP, but I am active in it’s community. I have always been so ashamed of my weight, of my need to lose weight, of my “dieting” - but now I am ready to tell and show the world that I am getting healthy and PROUD of it! Before I was too embarrassed to be active on the SparkTeams and my SparkPage but I have realized that the support from other Sparks is ESSENTIAL to this journey. I am determined to be a Spark Success Story and most importantly, a health, happy, me!

My DONE Statement:

I am DONE sacrificing my health for a few bites of food.

I am DONE passing milestones in my life that I swore I would be thin for still heavy.

I am DONE having a stomach that looks like I am pregnant.

I am DONE being the fat friend.

I am DONE not being able to shop in stores because the clothes might not fit.

I am DONE being a slow, fat runner (even if I do end up being a slow, fit runner)

I am DONE with people not believing I am a runner because of my size.

I am DONE not being the best version of my self.

I am a DONE GIRL. I am DONE being fat. I am DONE being unhealthy. I am ON MY WAY to success!
