You have a very clever mom! I love the creative way she got the hawk out. Pretty sure if that would have happened at my house growing up, the hawk would come out in a way that would have permanently stopped him from ever going in again.. unless it could have been easily shooed out with a broom or something. These hawks seem very aggressive though...kind of like raccoons with wings! lol Someone strung colored mason string over her chicken yard in a random pattern with all string no more than 2 feet apart and she said that worked to keep the hawks out. I guess they need a two foot opening for their wingspan when they dive and if they don't see that they have that, they'll stay away.

They would freeze if we left them, so we didn't have much choice... They mostly roosted pretty low. Mom actually tempted the hawk into a cat carrier with cat food! And our chickens are mostly for eggs, although we do eat the extra roosters.

Wow, that's dedication to bring your chickens out of the trees at night! Does someone climb up or do you have a ladder? I remember when I was a kid and we'd have a few roost in a tree occasionally and that's just where they had to stay, because they were way up there. I'm still thinking about that hawk that went in your coop too! He was VERY determined to get his chicken dinner...I bet getting him out was a good trick. Does your family raise chickens for meat, eggs or both?

Yeah, I don't love geese either... But mom does for some reason. I'll admit that the goslings are adorable! We once had a hawk so brazen that mom found it perching INSIDE a chicken coop! We got permission to relocate it instead of killing it!
