Hi, I'm a 578 year old physical education teacher from the Canadian prairies. I've let injuries and the business of raising a family interfere with my personal health and fitness. I've been a SparkPeople member since August 2009. But I really didn't get serious until January 2010. I'm going slow and taking my time. It took me 25 years to do the damage and I'm not going to change things overnight but I am encouraged by some small successes.

It's well past time that I should update my page. My 2 year anniversary is coming up in September. So far I've lost 35 pounds for good and I've lost and gained the same 10 pounds over and over for most of the past winter. I'm working at overcoming some nagging injuries. I've quit running and I'm cycling, rollerblading
and walking to get my daily cardio. I'm also lifting weight 3 times a week. That's going pretty well. I've been eating better too. I've just begun the Summer 5% challenge. I'm hopeful that I will break that plateau and finally ditch that pesky 10 pounds by the end of the challenge. Then I'll have 35 more pounds to reach my goal. Maybe it will take another 2 years, (I hope not!) but I think I can continue to deal with a slow and steady loss just as long as it stays lost! Time will tell. In the meantime I'm going to continue to enjoy life and take care of me.

Update: January 17, 2014

I'm starting the Winter 5% Challenge tomorrow. I've done a few before, had some success and then fallen off the wagon. I'm almost back to where I was when I joined Sparkpeople. I really need to buckle down and stick with it. In addition to the challenge, two of my colleagues and I have formed a group to keep each other on track. We'll meet weekly. I am determined to lose it for good this time around. I'd say wish me luck but what I really need is fortitude and will power.

Update: January 2015

Starting yet another 5% Challenge this month. I've regained the 60 pounds I lost and I'm feeling pretty awful about myself these days. I need the added incentive of being responsible to my team to keep me on the straight and narrow. Here's to new beginnings!

My Program:
I'm trying to stick to a 1310- 1660 calorie diet. I'm aiming for a minimum of 400 minutes of cardio a week and strength training 3 days per week.

Other Information:
I'm a voracious reader. I collect quotes. I play ringette on an over 30 ladies team. I've always loved to be active. I worked at balancing my calorie intake with my energy expenditure and I did very well for a while. And then I fell off the wagon and knocked myself unconscious. Just starting to recover my senses now.
