Hey all!

I have been struggling with eating disorders for the last 5-6 years, being both very underweight (97 lbs at 5'4") and overweight (my current: 185). i am worried about hitting the 200lb mark, and really don't want to get there. I need support to heal from my eating issues, and I'm hoping to find others who have gone through similar things. Message me and let's talk!

UPDATE: As of November 2009, I've dropped 30+ lbs, in part due to The Spark. I have reduced eating disorder behavior significantly, and I have begun teaching a regular yoga class. I also have a fabulous, supportive boyfriend! Life is all about ups and downs, and for me those ups and downs are reflected in my weight. I'm committed to getting to goal weight once again, in a HEALTHY WAY THIS TIME!!

Update October 29, 2011: I am now back to my starting weight, before all of this eating disorder stuff came into play. Half of me finds that very depressing, while half of me celebrates my triumph over disordered eating, one day at a time. I am way less obsessed with body image, and I have a lot of beautiful things/people/opportunities in my life. I would still like to get to goal weight, but I have my whole life ahead of me to do that.

I have started tracking my food again on Sparkpeople to hold myself accountable...I will see if it aggravates my eating disorder or helps me move forward...

Also, I am refocusing on my yoga and teaching practice. Yoga has helped me come back into my body, and teaching is helping me love my body even more!

Quoted from a fellow sparker's page:

"Lean not on your own understanding, but in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path".

"When I find myself scratching my head due to lack of progress, I remind myself that God is RE-Sculpting me and that takes time."

Lord, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference

No I haven't cut anything out of my diet - I don't believe in an "all or nothing" mindset, so I've been reducing rather than banning certain foods. A lot of "bad" foods, like fried foods, processed/deli meats, packaged foods, refined grains and some sweets, I just don't like anymore, so they are easy to avoid. It's interesting how your tastes change as you learn more about the science of how food affects your body and mood!

Avoiding "all or nothing" is what's stopped me from cutting out sugar in the past. I think a short while off it would help reduce my taste for it though.

Ahhh, research is going a bit slowly, but luckily I have the rest of the summer to work on that. No classes or teaching responsibilities to get in the way, just my own laziness. emoticon

Is there a reason why you're watching your carb intake (and what is your goal range for the day)? I tend to aim for 50-65% of my daily calories to come from carbs. Refined foods like ice cream, candy, and white bread tend to be carb-heavy... the first two because of lots of added sugar.

Haha, sometimes school feels interminable. It might not feel this way now, but you'll be done with undergrad before you know it!

    Yes, the math I do is very theoretical. It's in an area called symplectic geometry/topology, which doesn't come up so often in everyday situations. ^^;

The grad students in my department are actually not as socially awkward as they tend to be at other schools... but that doesn't mean they're social butterflies or anything. It gets frustrating having to deal with the same people day after day... especially ones that are slightly (or highly) autistic. A lot of the math grads here have varying degrees of Asperger's syndrome. x_X

Hi there! How are you doing? I have been pretty out of communication with my Spark friends, so I thought I would drop in and see how you were and say hi. I hope everything is going well and that you are working towards your goals. One healthy choice at a time is all it takes! emoticon

    Hi, emoticon !

I'm not taking any classes this semester, since I'm in the research phase of grad school. (Math maybe works differently from other subjects.) During the first couple of years of grad school, one usually takes two to three classes with teaching duties, but after reaching candidacy, you're only allowed to take one class (with teaching duties and research). I could technically be taking a class right now, but there weren't any that piqued my interest.

What sorts of classes are you taking? The math department here shares a building with the psych department, but there isn't much interaction between the two. (Which is too bad because there are too many boys in math and not enough girls, whereas the psych department here is mostly girls!)

    Hope all's well! emoticon
