We live in the real world of real food and just because we are learning to live a healthier lifestyle doesn't mean we are going to live a life of deprivation and guilt when we indulge a bit now and then. Just remember to make a lot more healthy choices than choices that are less healthy and you will come out ahead. Eating a couple of bites of chocolate and having a glass of wine will not derail you. Sometimes it is just what we need after a rough day! Eating a pound of chocolate and a bottle of wine however, will make you feel sick, guilty, and won't do you any good at all. It's all about frequency and amount. Ask yourself if you are being good to your body and listen to your voice of reason. As to exercise, it is hard to get started and motivated sometimes, but once you get into the swing of it then exercising will be second nature and something you look forward to...I promise! emoticon

Welcome to San Antonio!!! I know it seems tough at first, but just start tracking, even if the numbers don't look to pretty at the end of the day. It does get easier, and you will learn to combine the foods you love with a healthier lifestyle.
You've come to the right place if you are looking for support! The members of the San Antonio Spark Team are positive and inspirational!
Keep it up, and celebrate the small victories!

Hey fellow Texan!!! I saw in the EE huddle that you need support. I've been there too (I guess we all have.) I don't know the issue but I just wanted to stop by and give you a hug. You can send me a Sparkmail if you need to talk. We're all in this together!

Hiya!! I saw your post over on the SA Team!! What I want to tell you is that you should never feel guilty about things you want. On this journey, it is important to recognize your wants and really spend a moment evaluating them to see if they are "productive" or "destructive". A "productive" want would something like a heart rate monitor, while a "destructive" want might be chocolate. Reward yourself with the productive wants and really start changing your view of the destructive wants. Ask yourself, will chocolate and wine really make me feel better or help me reach my goals? The answer is always "no".... but it doesn't mean you can't still HAVE those items. In order to have items that are "bad", you just have to plan ahead. Track all the food you PLAN to eat in one day and include your chocolate and wine. If you can make it all fit in your calorie range-- go for it! Denying yourself things you want long term won't help, but recognizing that they might not be the best choices and thus working them into your lifestyle keeps those items from being destructive.

    Hope this helps!!
