How I chose my name. In the past, I suffered journey fatigue and fell off the journey. This time I am committed to actively work to remain positive. I started this journey to improve my life, be fully active life and live without weight restrictions. I call it Physical freedom.

Prior to joining SP, my comfort zone was ignoring my weight. Today, I am taking responsibility for the choices I make, one by one. I let fear keep me from even trying for years. It was scary to make this decision but I found out that celebrating every small victory or a glass of water stops my fears. I lost 80 pounds in 2009 with SP but faltered and regained 60 prior to restarting this journey.

A successful journey is 10% changing what you eat, 20% fitness and 70% clearing the neurological junk in your head. A lasting journey starts with working on your inner head issues. Determine where those negative thoughts come from and resolve those issues. Once you get that done the rest is so much easier. I reminded myself that this is what it takes and that I said I'd do ANYTHING to lose weight. This is the Anything.

Being at peace with myself allows me to follow the journey without the daily struggle and fears for the first time on my life. The inner critic becomes quiet. It's not out of the ordinary. It feels totally normal. I feel healthier, happier and am slimmer. Even a vacation is not enough to derail me.

I'm over 70 and I've discovered that the suggested "calorie range" generated by SparkPeople is unrealistic for many women over 70. To lose weight consistently, my calorie range is between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. I track calories eaten but do NOT offset for fitness minutes. My goals for fitness and exercise are for strengthening, toning and cardio vascular fitness.

“I don't care." I say that when I don't want to face an inner feeling or emotion. I don't care becomes permission to do or eat just what I want. The pitfall is that it is an addictive feeling of abandon. Once I give in to that feeling, it easily becomes my norm.

No one is forcing me to take this journey or behave in a certain way. I am doing this because I want to become a healthier person.
I am choosing to add healthy foods to my meals and I am not deprived.

The real reward is peace. It's not a reward that I can see in a mirror or touch like new clothes, but I can feel it.

Remember how GOOD you felt just after you started this journey and how bad you felt the day before you started this journey.

My knees no longer hurt each time I get up from a chair. I can walk farther, faster and easier without getting out of breath. Physical freedom tastes sooooo sweet.

Motivation is what gets you started. The joy of healthy living is what keeps you going.

To learn to live comfortably in a slim, fit, healthy body.

My Program:
Exercise three times a week. I started with walking. I couldn't walk 1/4 mile without stopping to catch my breath. I can now walk 4-5 miles a day. I celebrate spontaneous exercise opportunities. I plan and shop for weekly meals and track honestly.



Personal Information:
I am 70, married and live in Southern California. Love to read. Sing in a choir.


Other Information:
I pursue a healthy lifestyle to the best of my ability. I feel powerful & successful and have reduced my stress and fears.

    2. How do I subscribe to the blog?
    Sigh. Best way I've figured out is by adding the blog to your "reading list" if you have a Blogger account yourself. There doesn't seem to be a valid "e-mail" subscription mechanism that I have found (yet). If you happen to find one, let me know!

    To get to your reading list, start at your blogger profile... there should be a menu on the left, and toward the bottom of that will be "Reading list". If you click on Reading list, it shows the most recent entries on ANY/ALL of the blogs you have already added to your reading list.

    On that list of blog entries, there will be a "Manage" link on the upper right hand side of the list. Click on that, and it lets you "Add" a blog to follow. I've generally done the "copy/paste" to add blogs I want to follow, that way I can link to pretty much ANY blogging platform, BlogSpot, WordPress, SimpleSite, Portfolio are some of the ones I have in my list.

    OneKidsMomSpark.blogspot.com can be used as the URL to put my blog on your Reading list.

    You made me laugh with that comment about the people going to dog obedience school! In fact, we "elders" hung back and let the young folks go test the waters! It's seems the group figured out who would go when quite naturally. emoticon

    hi! Good to see you. Thanks for reading my blog and for your idea how I might help dad. He likes to cook and is getting more and more comfortable in the kitchen.. And he has no idea about calories, fat limitation, and low carb eating. He is trying though and I think learning as well. The food delivery service is one option although a bit cost prohibitive. Sometimes he just has oatmeal for dinner....but at other times he cooks up a storm. I think all in all he is managing ok. But NEEDS to reduce his waist line.
