Six years ago I was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis. It is an autoimmune disorder that effects the connective tissues in the muscles. I have packed on the poundage from steroids and a complete sedentary lifestyle. I finally have the disease in remission and knew I had to get myself healthier so if I have a flare again I will live through it. I want to be able to just go shopping without being exhausted. This is due to the disease as well as all of the extra weight I have put on. My muscles are in a weakened state and being fat isn''t helping the situation. I began my lifestyle change in July. December is here and.life goes on. We are on vacation and my physical struggles continue. I am still trying to make smart choices and.just be able to move but this disease zaps me both physically and emotionally but I''m not giving up. No I''m not.

My Goals:
My goal is to be a normal weight. I don't know what that is to me personally, but according to the insurance chart it is much smaller then I will or want to be. I do know I want to be a "healthy" weight so my goal at this point is to lose about 50-60 more pounds. Baby Steps..Weekly goal 2-4lbs a week.

My Program:
Trying to eat a balanced meal. Eliminating all sweets!! drinking water and decaf coffee and occ. tea. Moving, moving, moving more then I used too. Increasing my protein intake as well.

Personal Information:
I am married with 5 girls and 6 grandchildren. My husband and I attend church regularly and we like to travel and go hunting.

Other Information:
It is better to remain silent and thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt.

Thanks for adding me as a friend; I am doing likewise. It is great to have another Butterfly to share the journey- sometimes you just need someone who has walked the same path that you walk. Best wishes on your journey to healthy!

Elizabeth. Thanks for your post. You are correct when you say journey. It has taken me 4yrs to get out of my wheelchair and another 2 to get to where I am. Everyday is a challenge but I've learned if I can endure and overcome that I can tackle this thing called "weight loss" My muscles at times can be sore to the touch too. When someone gives me a big hug it can be pain and pleasure.
    Have a great Christmas

It appears to me that you are doing very well in your journey to regain your health. I have RA and I know that somedays moving just hurts but I have told myself I can be a slave to my disease or I can stay in control.
