The Medical Diagnoses - Diabetes Type 2

In 2005 I started going to health fairs, drug stores, etc. and getting my blood sugar and cholesterol checked. I was homeless, no income, no medical, fell through cracks for assistance at every turn. My blood sugar readings then were just below 200, the nurses wanted me to go to dr. but no money. In 2006 sugars kept climbing, into the 200, 300 and mid-400's.
By the beginning of 2007 I was running pretty consistent 300's. I joined a "biggest loser" competition in a wellness group and began to very slowly lose a pound or two. I started reading labels, using smaller portions, etc. and numbers went down to 200's.
In April 2007 I finally got rated by a hospital to get free medical care and was able to see a physician. Joined in a second round of biggest loser, and started walking a bit. Started taking Januvia (free direct from company) and in between mailing times took metformin (donated by a friend). Sugars fell to the 100's. Weight had come down from 208 to 190.
3/5/2008 Joined SparkPeople and with team support (Managing Diabetes 50+50+) have lost 20 pounds.
On 4/7/2008 I posted my first double digit (99!) morning sugar and am continuing to have more and more double digit readings.

    I hope that you are still experiencing the low blood sugars like the one you had April 7, 2008. It's a daily struggle but one we are each individually responsible for overcoming. If not, it means our life eventually and until then what our quality of life will be. Hang in there, lady; you can do it! You've certainly overcome a lot; just don't let it slip away!
