I have a hoop

Saturday, June 28, 2008

... it's sparkly green. It's apparently filled with water (MrsHoneyC would love this - _everything_ is all about water!), and it's a lot of fun.

I still can't get it to do the anti-gravity thing - but now I have a sore waist/back. :) Cool - I guess I'm using muscles I didn't realise I had.

How many can I do? Well, I did ONCE hit 10. Purely by accident. My "normal" is still in the 3 to 5 loops-before-it-falls-down range. But this is only day 1. Who knows what day2 will bring?

Didn't get in quite as much dancing as planned - my trip to the mall to scope out hoops took way longer than planned.

Of course, it's the MALL, so one winds up window shopping and people-watching. One wonders why people would bring their private arguments with them to a mall - then one shrugs and keeps looking for _the_ hoop.

Got side-tracked, wound up buying laundry detergent as well. Got home and realised the powder version actually does more loads. Oh, well, I've been wanting to try the liquid version, so no big deal, really.

Of course, lugging home a stack of library books PLUS a 4.5 litre dispenser of detergent got heavy. Felt like I was doing a combination of lunges and squats all the way home. Thank goodness for public transit (door-to-door is super, sometimes!)

So. I'm no hula diva. More like a baby elephant stomping around trying NOT to kill the ants. Oh, well - I never said it was going to be graceful - I'm still aiming to be able to keep it suspended, in motion, around my belly for at least 10 twirls - I'm almost getting excited enough to aim for a whole minute! :)

Hey Maya....there was a segment on hula hoops on TV a few days ago and she showed how you had to stand with one leg forward and that it wasn't a circle action but a back and forward movement. I was going to take a hula hoop class last week but didn't....my granddaughter can do this for 2 hours......yikes, huh! Let me know how goes it? I would love to join you....never have got it down BUT....never say never, right? Let me know how it is working out.....off to a b-party....no cake for me.....hugs, rjl

Okay Girl, you gotta sell me on the exercise factor of the hula-hoop. Does it majorally tone your waist? The last time I tried onen it made me feel VERY old because I just couldn't seem to do it. But I am so picturing the elephant and the ants--I felt a little bit like an elephant playing Twister when I did my Bollywood video.
