Selective Belief

Have you noticed on this journey that some things are much easier to believe than others? Take the scale. I realized one day that when the numbers decreased, that baby was far more believable than when the numbers increased.

Lose 2 pounds? Man - awesome - great scale. Gain two pounds? Get off, get back on, get off, get back on. Check the battery. Make sure it's really on zero. It takes a good three times to make sure that it's truly an accurate reading.

Today, I noticed that my blood pressure was slightly higher than normal. Before, when it was always low, I had no need to retest. But when I slid my arm into the cuff at Safeway and saw those numbers, boy! I simply couldn't believe it. But finally, I had to believe it. Whether it's stress, the extra pounds, sodium or a combination thereof, I MUST believe that number. That number I can't play with because it has a bit more weight to it.

That said, I gotta get the day's workout in so I'm headed to the gym. Any night warriors out there joining me, let's send each other positive vibes.
