Who Woulda Thunk!!!

I am constantly amazed at how I take all that I have learned on Spark and apply it wherever I go. I went to the market last night to pick up a few very needed items. I also intended to get myself a well earned 'goodie" treat for my recent 7.5 lb. weight loss. My first stop was the fruit and veggie section. With the cost of everything shooting through the roof I was very selective and price conscious; buying only those things on sale, but managing a nice healthy, colorful selection. I then picked up some beans, rice, green tea - checking and reading all labels! I then selected a great sweet, dark whole grain bread and finally, began my search for the perfect "reward" goodie. I walked up and down the aisles; first stop, the ice cream aisle (an old, familiar standby) , then I checked out the donuts and pastries (it has been sooooo long!), finding nothing that floated my boat I headed for the oh so yummy CANDY aisle! I spent 15 minutes searching for that ever so elusive delight. THEN, it hit me and I knew exactly what I wanted! The first thing I saw when started shopping were the HUGE, very EXPENSIVE white cling free peaches! The price had totally put me off, but I could spend a $1.60 on one large, yummy, delectable peach which would not get me off track and I would NEVER regret eating, or I could spend the same amount on totally empty calories, not enjoy them half as much and might feel guilty for eating later - the choice was not hard! I had my peach for breakfast this morning along with my oatmeal. As the juice was running down my chin I actually laughed at how utterly delightful this little treasure of mine was! Every choice we make is ours and ours alone. It gets easier every day to make the right choice; not just for my health, but in every aspect of my life. The tools we utilize here and the lessons we learn do not just apply to eating healthy and losing weight; they can and do apply to all aspects of our lives making life better and happier all around.

I SO enjoyed my little pleasure!

Thank you for that perspective, I too have often denied myself the lovely fruit, because it was too expensive. One thing I have learned is not to bring any goodies into my home, but instead when I go out for lunch, to share an elegant dessert with 3 other friends. There is no denial, but I don't get into trouble that way.

    What brilliance!

I'm in awe of your shopping accumen. If you want something junky but not so bad check out the carob chips. They are low in fat, high in protien and feel like candy to me.

Good for you for making the choice for something healthy and even though we are trained not to think this way but something wonderful. You deserve it for doing such a great job. 7.5 lbs is awesome. I hope you keep up the reward system for yourself and that when you do the choice is always a good one for you, that is quite a step to make yourself listen to what your insides really want. Keep it up!

Mine sweeeeeet treat is a nice, plump, juicy, white nectarine. I also do sometimes have a few chocolate covered pretzels. I'm weaning myself off of them. So far when I do HAVE to have some, I have no more than four or five. Thanks for the blog!

emoticon What a great example of the game I want to play for the rest of my life: the most delicious investments in my health I can find. The good news is we do have so many choices. The cling peaches sound like a major score. I may steal that idea myself.

I laughed at your blog! Amazing the changes which take place when we begin making better choices. The old choices don't have the allure they once did. We realize how nice feeling good about what we are doing actually feels and it has value to us so we're less likely to ditch it for a "twinkie"... :)

Loved the peach story! I'm addicted to peaches too... sweet, natural, good for you, and low in calories!

I agree, my favorite is blueberries, I could eat them till I turn blue! But I do love a peach and the onl way to eat it is with soft fuzzy skin and eating it over the sink with the juice dripping down your chin. YUM great choice!!!

My favorite treat is berries. The problem is in the summer there is u-pick. I overpick them and then I don't want them again for month. It's no longer a treat when there are bags of them in your refrigerator.
