Who said "You can't teach an old dog a new trick?"..I'm catchin' on...

Well, I'm quite impressed with myself this morning. Yesterday was my sister-in-laws birthday and we went out to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse. Thankfully, I'd planned for the meal but especially thankful for my "new found learning experience" here at SP. I'd read recently that a good thing to do is to find the menus on the internet and plan on what you are gonna eat BEFORE you get there. I did it and it really helped.

Another thing that i noticed was the fact that my s-i-l, was bragging about trying to lose weight herself and telling her husband that he needed to watch his lunch routine and eat healthier. According to him, he eats at Mickey D's for lunch and I'm sure its just for convenience. Well, little miss pris, LOL, watching what she eats, had the most expensive calorie item on the menu, the baby back ribs, LOL. I kept my big mouth shut but will probably email her and tell her about SP, but I don't think she is very 'puter literate, LOL.
Then again, maybe I'll wait until she notices my progress and THEN tell here what my secret is. Yea, that's the ticket.

My wife had the small cut of prime rib which was 880 calories plus the 350 calories for the baked potato with butter, probably more calories, I forgot to add the extra butter that she ordered. She almost choked when I told her what her calorie plan was!

Little ol' me, chose, the 10 oz salmon, the steamed asparagus and the rice pilaf, I did splurge and have a side Cesar salad which cost 350 calories, which I might not do the next time, but it was very good! So my calorie intake for dinner was: 410 salmon+200 rice pilaf+90 asparagus+350 salad=1050, which was not the best way to go, but a far improvement over what I MIGHT HAVE CHOSEN, if not for my recent education here at SP.

So, I learned that the best defense is a good offense, be prepared and know what is on the menu BEFORE you go.

Good luck and thanks for stopping by
Tony

That's AWESOME!!!! Congrats on making such good choices at the restaurant! I know it was a few days ago now but I just came across your blog and had to congratulate you for it.

That is such a tough situation to be in and I also find that planning it ahead of time really is the best way to get through the meal.

And that's great with you s-i-l, gotta love people who claim to know it all and brag about it and make the worst choice possible!! I agree with CARTOONB that you should definitely wait and tell her about it after she notices your awesome progress!

Over 10lbs down, you're awesome keep it up!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

GOOD JOB!!!!! I am proud of you. It takes willpower to order what is GOOD for you when others are "splurging" on what they consider the good stuff. Another helpful hint is for you to order first and then you won't feel like changing your order becasue something else on the menu "sounds yummier". I have looked at the menu, made my choice, then changed my mind before my turn to order came around just BECAUSE what someone else ordered sounded better (not healthier).

Isn't it a great feeling to have a plan to do well and stick to it!! Even when all of your dinner partners are eating such "expensive" items!

I thnk you should mention SP to your s-i-l. Save the mention of her food choice until a MUCH later date!

Hey, great job on preparing for a big night out. I find that it helps to plan out what I'm going to eat... that is, if I can stick to it once I get there. emoticon

EVERY step you make in the right direction is awesome! Keep up the great work.

Isn't the nutition tracker the best. I like the way you described the ceaser salad as a cost. I find myself passing up stuff just because I now realize the cost of it.

    I think you did great!

1050 is about 1/3 of your allotted calories so I don't think you splurged too much - maybe it just cost you a snack during the day, but I figure up to 1/3 of the calories per meal is the right ticket.

    You go Tony!! Yay You!!

Tony I am so proud of you! Great job looking online and knowing exactly what to order. Your dinner sounded delicious!! Even with the Ceasar salad because you knew what you were doing and how many calories it had. Knowledge is a powerful thing! Woot woot!!
