BIG NEWS... BABY UPDATE!!!!
Thursday, November 19, 2009
I guess I will start out with the basic stuff. Saw a new neurologist last week - Dr. Kutluay. All went well - I liked him and I think he's just what I was looking for. He's keeping me on the same seizure meds but bumping up the dose a bit. He said that because the baby's all formed now (all that basically happens in the second half is that baby grows bigger) that seizures themselves are more dangerous for baby than a higher dose of my meds. So... tomorrow I'll be starting on more. Hopefully won't make me too drowsy... but it usually does. He also suggested that I should be seeing a high risk doctor and not just a midwife, but Cheri is confident that the head doc of the group she is in will be just fine - he's dealt with many a high risk patient and I am SO happy that she said that because I really like him. He's funny and laid-back and really knows his stuff. So, I see him in one month and then back to Cheri the following month.
Next order of business - Cheri is going to make me do that nasty glucose test at my next visit (even though it's two months earlier than they would make the average patient do it). She said that it's because I weigh more... so I decided to consent. Then she said I could do the "Jelly Bean test" instead. Have any of you ever heard of this? I have to come in one hour before my appointment, have the lab tech count out my 28 jelly beans (no black - for some odd reason which is fine because I hate them) and then eat them all in 5 minutes. Then an hour later they do that finger prick test for my blood glucose level. Strange, hey? What's even funnier is that my friend Christina has been calling my baby "Jelly Bean" since she saw my first ultrasound. LOL. And now I get to take the Jelly Bean test!
Okay... you are probably all wondering if I am EVER going to reveal the results of today's ultrasound. Well, it's got two hands (10 fingers) and 2 legs (10 toes) and a perfect spine, brain, heart, kidneys, etc. Heather, the ultrasound tech said that the baby's legs are long, cheeks are big (my son's were huge so it's not a big suprise) and that the baby looks like it's about 5 days ahead in growth. This baby was SO stubborn. The ultrasound took an hour because the baby was laying with it's spine up against my belly button and head down... and kept refusing to show it's face! LOL. Camera shy, I guess. Same with in between the legs. Legs tightly closed. "Nananananaaaa - you can't know what I aaaammm!!!!" But finally (after about 45 minutes) HE let us know. Yep... it's a boy. So, since we've only really had girl names decided - we're gonna have to get a jump on boy names now! I wanted a girl at first, but I had that "mother's intuition" for about the last 3 weeks that it was a boy, so I wasn't that suprised. I'm just really happy that he's moving around a bunch.
Hubby didn't go to the ultrasound. He didn't want to for a few reasons. He said he didn't want to look too disappointed if it wasn't a girl and then the ultrasound tech would think he was a bad dad. I told him that wouldn't happen, but he was funny about it. He also would have had a hard time getting half a day off work. So, he told me to go myself and give him the news in my own way. After leaving my appointment I stopped at Target. I bought a cute little outfit that had navy blue pants with a gray draw string and cute little button pockets on the side of the legs. The shirt was navy and long sleeved with adorable little red and gray lions on the front and striped sleeves that come from underneath like a long-sleeved shirt under a short-sleeved one. So very cute. I took the outfit and laid it on our decorative pillows on our bed. Then I put the clearest ultrasound pic on it (of the face) and attached a little post-it that I drew a big word bubble on. I wrote, "I can't wait to meet you, Daddy! Love, Your #2 Son". It turned out really cute. And the #2 son thing is kind of a family joke. My husband's mom didn't realize she was in labor and so he ended up being delivered on the bathroom floor. He was their second son, but his dad always thought #2 son was fitting because of the whole bathroom thing. LOL. And now it's fitting for us since my husband is a plumber! LOL. Anyway.... He actually wasn't disappointed (or if he was he hid it well). He said he had a feeling it was a boy (probably got that feeling after I told him about the giant cheeks since our son had them but our daughter didn't). It's just nice to know. Since we didn't think we were having more kids we have NOTHING left for babies so I need to start from scratch. And now it seems everything is all gender specific. There isn't nearly as much gender neutral stuff as there used to be. So, now I get to be on the lookout for cute baby boy stuff! I was also nervous because my meds can cause stunted growth (it's a disease but I can't remember the name of it) and a couple other health conditions, but all is well and if anything he's ahead of schedule. Praise God. There was a whole Bible Study group of ladies covering me and baby boy in prayer today and I am thankful. So, introducing to the world.... Conner or Liam or Avery or Carson or... any other name in our slew of many we haven't chosen from yet!!!!
And here he is waving at all of you!
