Boot Camp Day 3

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

When I push my body really hard for to many days in a row without proper rest, my immune system starts getting little cracks in it. I start feeling like a wagon whose wheels are getting ready to fall off. I get a little bit of a sore throat and get a real tired feeling around my eyes. So, when I woke up this morning and had those feelings, I changed a few of my plans for the day. I did not get up early and do my boot camp video. I laid bed for a few extra minutes and rested. I packed a little extra vitamin C in my lunch box and drank lots of water. At lunch I came home planning to take a nap infront of the pellet stove. When I got home I was starving, even though I had already eaten my packed lunch at my desk just two hours before. I made myself half a sandwich with ezekiel bread, sunflower seed butter and strawberry jam and poured myself a cup of skim milk. Then I did lay down for a little rest. I was feeling pretty good so I got up and did my bootcamp video upper body workout!!! I felt pretty pumped and ready to go back to work. This was my first night back with my trainer since December 17. I missed her! Buddy, she worked me out hard tonight!!! All my favorites (deadlift, military press, heavy bicep work, triceps) , some of my not favorites (walking lunges) and some new challenges (jack knife). She is so crafty. She said, "I have something I want you to try, but I'm not sure you are strong enough for it yet." She knows she just threw down the gauntlet for me! I am a fierce competitor and for me there is no 'try' there is do or do not. First attempt was comical. I didn't know it was possible to get bucked from a stability ball! But, yep, landed on my a*s! We both just laughed. I said, "I can do this, let me focus". Once I focused on my core, I was able to complete 2 sets of 10 reps each! I must say, I am proud of myself! It has been a good day!

Activity:
8 minute Boot Camp Upper Body Workout
30 minutes on the Elliptical
40 minutes of lifting and core work with trainer

Nutrition:
Breakfast:
1/2 cup Steel Cut Oats with Banana, Pecans, and a few semi-sweet choc. chips
1 orange
1 cup skim milk

Snack: 1 serving of pistachio nuts (yes, 47)!!!!
1 orange

Lunch:
3 oz. Chicken Breast mixed w/ 1 cup spinach, roasted red pepper, 1 tbsp. cream cheese, 2 tbsp. part skim mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning

1 oz. chevre cheese
1 serving rye crisp crackers
1/2 a grapefruit

Snack
1 slice of ezekiel bread
1 tbsp. sunflower seed butter
1 tbsp. strawberry jam
1 cup milk

Dinner
Garden Burger
1 slimwich bun
1 oz pepper jack cheese
1 cup Parisian mixed veggies (green beans, broccoli, mushrooms, carrots)

Calories = 1,585 (still a little to low . . . I'm having a hard time getting in over 1,600. I eat pretty balanced nutrition, eat every 3 hours, and only eat what I am hungry for. So it is hard to make myself eat something just because I need the cals.

oh so we should listen to our bodies when they tell us to slow down huh?? lol

I say that as I'm in bed typing this after being here pretty much 24 hours straight. How miserable. I did get out to go to the doctors. I actually do feel a little better and am going to venture out of my room shortly Maybe next time I will slow down instead of feeling I need to be supermom.

You have a wonderful plan going and I too love to see your menus and what's going on. Great job!!!

You are doing really great!!! Maybe try adding a smoothie in to get your calories. For me I can always drink something when I am not hungry!

You are SO motivational!! Feeling crummy during the day and you still pushed yourself past your limits!!
I do enjoy seeing your menu's...I just did a recipe search for sunflower seed butter and plan to give that a try over the weekend. I need to be more inventive, especially with my dinners, next week. Right now, I have to ride it out with what I have until Friday. But I REALLY want to find some interesting recipes for next week.

(it's good that you are getting to know your body. ever since i started getting sick a lot this winter, i have the same problem. my energy levels aren't what they used to be and i have to be careful not to push myself too much, too.)

Great job for getting through the day and finding the energy you needed to make it to the trainer. It's nice when our bodies can do more than we can imagine. I am happy that you were able to do new things and get through the things that were troubling you. Sorry you were not feeling the best. I am just getting over my chest cold and so happy it was in time for the challenges. I didn't need any excuses to hold me back.

Congrats again on a GREAT day! Keep it up.

Glad you looked after yourself... and still came out on top! Way to go! My calves are killing me - I think from the Sunday jumping workout and my Wii active was a serious lower body workout on Monday. Ugh! I was happy to see it was an upper body video today! :-)
