Day 4 Boot Camp

Very full day today! If you watched The Biggest Loser last night, you know the first challenge the contestants had was to go 26.2 miles (a marathon) on a stationary bike. The two team members combined miles counted to the total distance traveled. So, the question cam up on the Gray team of The Biggest Loser Challenge, how long that would take. Since I spent a lot of time on my bicycle this past summer, I knew how long that would take on my bike, but not so sure on a stationary bike. So today after work, I headed to the gym to check it out. I knew I didn't have time to do the full marathon by myself tonight, so I aimed for a half marathon. The bike I used, although nice, is not as nice as my bicycle. Mine has a real comfy seat and I have a Trek Odometer that gives me readings of how fast I am going, distance, time, etc. This exercise bike did tell me distance and resistance level and I was wearing my Ironman watch to time the ride. Since there is no such thing as 'gearing' on a stationary bike, I just set it at a moderate resistance and took off as fast as I could. I had a great pace and felt fabulous the whole time. According to the heart rate monitor, I was not able to get up into the aerobic range during any portion of my 13.1 miles. I was sweating, but not laboring. I finished in a time of 1:04:45. I will try a different bike with different settings on Saturday and give an update.

Nutrition:

Breakfast:
1/2 cup dry Steel Cut Oats mixed with 1 cup water
1/2 banana
1/4 cup chopped pecans
10 pieces of semi sweet choc. chips

Snack:
1/2 cup Spicy Nut Mix (recipe is on a blog dated Dec. 8)
1 Orange
1 Cup Skim Milk

Lunch:
3 oz. Chicken Breast
1 cup Brussel Sprouts
1/2 cup Roasted Red Pepper
Italian Seasoning
1 tbsp. cream cheese
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella

Snack:
2 Fig Newtons
1 Orange
Hard Boiled Egg

Dinner:
2 Slices Ezekiel Bread
1 Tbsp. Sunflower Seed Butter
1 Tbsp. Strawberry Jam
1 cup Skim Milk
1 Orange


Not sure of my calorie count at this time. I feel satisfied. Felt like I had enough energy for everything I did today without having to push myself too hard. Drank lots of water and had two GU gummies during my run.

Oh, I almost forgot to share!!!! I WON an iPod Nano in a weight loss challenge at work today!!!! It was a Maintain Don't Gain During the Holiday's Challenge for all the faculty and staff at the University. I lost 12lbs. during the time!!! If you maintained your starting weight, you get $10 certificate to the campus bookstore. If you lost any amount of weight, your name was entered into a drawing for the iPod!!! 54 names were in the drawing, and I WON!!!!! Happy Dance! Yay me!

    Really cool to go recreate the challenge from last night! I'm surprised, though, about not getting into the THR. Why do you think that is?

    I used to have a heart rate monitor. It's probably around here somewhere. I miss it since I'm not at the Y anymore to use the sensors on the treadmill.
