Wild Goose Chase--I Am A Runner
Sunday, February 21, 2010
We drove to Delta the night before for kind of a little mini adventure. It snowed the whole way down, almost blizzard like conditions. This made me apprehensive because I really don't do well running in the cold.
When we woke up the next morning there was snow on the ground, but the sun was shining and Iknew this would be a great day to be outside and absorbing all that nature had to offer.
When we got to the starting line I was nervous and I was glad I had my daughter with me. She had just gotten stitches out of the bottom of her foot and we were concerned that this would bother her. I was nervous and I didn't really hear the starting bell, just saw people moving and so off we went.
We found a runner just in front of us to keep pace with and tried not to let her out of our sights. I felt really good running. The road was muddy but the temp was perfect about 32*. My daughter and I kept pace with each other until the last.10th. There were some boys behind us and she wanted to beat them so she really poured it on the last .10th. (She did beat one of the boys).
I thought I was pushing it the last .10th but when I looked at the video it looked like I was hardly running. My time was 37.41 and my daughters time was 37.07. I was very happy with my time!! I came in 4th out of 9 in my age group.
Out of all of the things I teach my children (respect, working hard, taking care of themselves) what I want to teach them the most is that they can do anything they are willing to work at doing. I want to teach them, especially my daughter, that women are capable, but forgiving ; strong, but gentle. I am trying to teach by example.
My 10 year old son wants to run with me in my next 5k in March.
I AM A RUNNER!!
