Is high fiber oatmeal the culprit?

Saturday, March 06, 2010

I have been consuming higher fiber oatmeal w/45grams of carbs this week. Consequently, I have been maintaining instead of losing. I have always had trouble digesting high numbers of carbs in the past. However, I wanted to add the high fiber oatmeal to the mix to increase my fiber intake. All other variables in my regimen has remained constant. And although I love, love, love oatmeal, I am going to remove it next week. This will tell me if oatmeal was the culprit.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

i love oatmeal....but maybe try eating less of it and adding more fruit like a pear to bulk it up a bit

Never had that problem, B. I eat so many carbs that aren't good for me, I can never pin weight gain (or lack of weight loss) down on any good carbs. Just wanted to check in with you and say hi today. Keep on keepin' on; you'll get there!!

I haven't tried high fiber oatmeal, but, oatmeal is filling and high in carbs. I do eat the high fiber Cream of Wheat and feel very full afterward. Maybe you should decrease your serving size and add an apple. Eating more fruits with their skin is also a good way to increase fiber. That's what I did. There are also yogurts with added fiber now. Of course, you may have reached the dreaded plateau, in which case, just give your body some time to adjust. Fiber is supposed to be increased gradually.

No can't say that I have had that trouble. I left behind the Quick Oats and have been using Steel Cut Oats and since I got to the stuff that takes 20 min.s to cook I have been steady with the weight loss. I really enjoy this oatmeal. Can taste and see the difference! Good luck and let us all know what you find out. It could be that this is just one of those weeks that your body isn't going to get rid of any pounds!
