The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed.

The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed.

Don't know where that quote came from but there is a lot of truth to it.
Today was out local Pine Line 5-K. I reluctantly planned on running it again this year, reluctantly because I have been having problems with my hip and knee which has slowed me down greatly. I have been averaging between 11:30 and 12:00 min miles on my runs and coming in as the WORST run ever was yesterdays with a pace of 12:20. Quite depressing to say the least, I can walk faster. All week I have been coming up with excuses in my head NOT to run today and this morning I actually went to the race intending not to run...especially since it was pouring rain. The only reason I went was that I was supposed to meet someone there and honestly I didn't think she would show with the rain.
Once I got there I saw a few people I knew and quite a bit of relation. Somehow I managed to talk myself into staying and running, after all I was already there and the weather has been much worse for this race (snow, sleet, freezing rain).
So I ran. My hip barely hurt throughout the whole race and my knee did not bother me at all. (maybe it is all in my head!) By the time I was done I was thoroughly drenched with wet soppy shoes....but I did it!
I actually beat my time of 30:29 pace 9:48 from last year. This year I came in at 30:02 with a pace of 9:39! To make it even better I won a first in my age division!!
No more 12 minute miles! Obviously I am not pushing myself hard enough!

So glad I went and didn't throw in the towel this morning!

You are so right! Is this the quote you were looking for? "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." Thomas Edison

So glad you carried through and made your run a success! Woohoo!

emoticon n doing the race and finishing better than your previous year. I don't race but do walk 10,000 nsteps a day and try to get out of it by negative self talk but do it anyways. I love your saying "the temptation to throw in the towel. I will remember not to give into that. emoticon

Now that's motivating!! Bravo to you. As the Flylady says, "You can do anything for 15 minutes" (or in your case, 30.02)
