Inversion Table

Monday, May 03, 2010

I have really been struggling the last three weeks. My herniated disks are not getting better. The physical therapist told me I needed to stop running, not just for a week but forever. I have also been to a chiropractor with not much relief either. People are telling me to give up the running thing and just be happy with walking or swimming, whatever. But I really want to RUN!! I had gotten back into the grove of it and it is such a tension reliever for me.

Last week the physical therapist was telling me that maybe an inversion table might help. This is a table that you lay down on and then use your body weight to make your feet higher than your head. You don't even have to hang completely upside down.

Big 5 had one on sell for just over 100.00. I have been using it for about a week and what a difference it has made for me. So I am starting to run a bit again.
My routine is to get on the inversion table for 5 minutes in the morning and again before I go to bed or after I run. I have also been very consistent about doing a half hour of yoga at night.

It isn't perfect and my back isn't perfect, but enough that I have signed up for the Health Days 5K in Smithfield on May 8. I have 2 of my kids running with me and that is always the best part for me.
Wish me lucK!!

Goodluck with the 5k! I'm sorry you're having such set backs. You seem to be taking control though and finding a way to keep doing what you love.
