Help!? How many calories does this burn?

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Hey everyone, I have a question. I run/walk on the treadmill or outside. On the fitness log I can find running or walking, but not run/walk for the amount of time and speed I go. So, I'm trying to figure out how many calories I'm burning and how to log it.

I typically go about 45 minutes. I alternate jogging and walking. When broken down, it is 25 min walking at a 16 min mile Pace. Then 20 min jogging at an 11 min mile pace.

What I have found on the fitness log is to log it as 25 min walking, 17 min mile pace. Then 20 min jogging, 11 min mile pace. This then gives me a total burned calories for the workout.

Do you think this is accurate?

Thanks guys. I've entered it like you said amacuba, I just wasn't sure if that would be pretty accurate since technically it's like interval training. I FEEL like I'm burning the number it shows me! lol

Yeah, that approach sounds about right.

When you enter your physical activity, type in "jog" or "run" and you will have a list of things to choose from. I know for sure there is a 17 minute mile pace for walking, and I think there is an 11 minute mile pace for jogging/running.

After you have selected that activity/pace, you enter in how long it has taken you.

Keep in mind, though, that that's an average, and chances are (especially if you're just starting out) you're burning more. I still burn more, and I've been doing this for 4 years! lol

I recently bought a Polar watch/chest strap contraption, which gives me really accurate readings among other things. It wasn't very expensive, and you don't have to pay a monthly fee, like you do with products like the Body Bugg.

Anyway, I hope you figure out how to enter stuff, and if you have any further confusion/questions, feel free to ask me!
