Run ... like the wind!

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Spark people ate my post earlier, so giving it another shot :(

It may seem like maybe I fell off the wagon as there was no posting for a more than month. That wasn't the case at all, I promise! Even though the support here is beyond awesome, I've been blogging somewhere else more familiar. However, maybe thats time for those to change as well. Will try to cross post as best as I can. ;)

The one thing I learned today: when working out in the heat hydrating is everything! Logically, I knew it would be a bad idea with the heat index as high as it was to run without hydrating properly.. but decided to take my chances anyway. The first run was great. I finally hit 4 minutes of running SOLID! This is HUGE! Just a month ago I was barely barely pushing at 2 minutes without huffing and puffing.

The problem was the second leg of my run. No hydration + sun + improper clothes = running fail. I barely made it to 3 minutes this time even though I went farther because of the start of heat stroke. This caused a complete stop for around 15 seconds, and very slow walking until the vision stopped being swimmy. Then I commenced with the 1:30 run back to the house. It kind of evens out, sorta... but I am not really happy that the last leg of my run didn't also hit 4 minutes. :(

It will next time for sure. But still... 4 MINUTES STRAIGHT! I can't believe I ran for 4 minutes straight!!!!! Within another week or two, I should be up to 5 minutes which means I'll be able to run around my entire block with little issue. Yay!

This is great. This is the one thing I can do no matter what the weather, is not contingent on anyone else being there or not being there, gives an abundance of fresh oxygen.. along with a bit of a tan!

Now for the other thing. The other thing is more a NSV. It is apart of a lifestyle thing.

Yesterday my mother took me out to a fancy restaurant. Because I felt bad about not having my husband with me, I split everything in half for my husband. Including salad, shrimp..etc. The only thing that was not split was the crab and lobster, due to his hatred of both of those things! I loaded up on water with the meal (yummy cold water!), and was still completely full by the time we left.

Half of my meal was left, yo.

I did this today actually with fast food ordered out (this is it for the week for me, btw). I split it with my kids. It wasn't a big meal at all, but I didn't feel like I missed out on anything, and again. I still felt full. A bit less so than yesterday since I wasn't drinking water.

This is a huge thing. It's one thing I had forgotten about being on plan. When you go out, splitting your meals right when they come to you. It's out of your site. You eat a bit slower than you normally would, and if you are like me, you end up drinking more water. And if you get hungry later, you STILL have half of your meal. That is the great thing.

So finally after almost 2 months and 10 pounds (very slow, I know. lol), its become a life style change. That, my friends, is huge.
