Star date: Week 5.. day 1

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

.. So today I said that I would likely just jump in fully to the c25k program. One of the hardest weeks, the much dreaded week 5. Which consists of 5 minute runs, with three intervals. By the end, you'll have ran 15 minutes. In my case, that also means running/walking 1.4 miles.

Because I jumped out of bed late, I didn't hydrate properly and had nothing in my stomach for my run. This wasn't a great idea. I knew it would make everything harder, but at the same time.. I wanted to prove that I could.

First run, 5 MINUTES!! 5 WHOLE MINUTES!! It was a bit hard, but I powered through it. Took a minute 15 break, ran again. Second 5 minutes was harder for sure. I tried to stay away from hills, but ended up hitting them anyway. By the time I checked my I-touch, I had 30 seconds left to GO!

Two intervals of 5 minutes STRAIGHT! By this time I am really feeling the no hydration and the heat is getting to me. I am covered in sweat. The logical part of me just says to head home. But I decide that I am going to run the last part, and if I need to stop so be it. But at least it will be more than I was doing.

So I set my run, and start. Making sure to slow my stride. My breathing is really wonky now, and I check in with 2 minutes to go. Yuck. I focus on my breathing instead. Next time I check I have 20 seconds to go. I can do that! I can do 20 seconds! I get through it, and man I am glad I did. I check to make sure I clocked 5 minutes..

so no only did I extend my time again by 30 seconds, but I added another 5 minutes to my run entirely!

I am so so happy with this.

The next one calls to run from 5 to 8.. but I think I am going to repeat this week before my next run before trying. Adding on that extra 5 minutes really did it for me.. and I want to make sure my body is well adjusted before I move forward. They say after running 5 minutes consistent, everything else is mental.

But... YAY!!!!
