Tooth Consultation

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

I went for my consultation yesterday. The dentist wants to take 3 of my 4 wisdom teeth. The one he is leaving is fully impacted but isn't bothering me, nor is it pushing on my other teeth. He said due to the location of where it is and my nerve there he doesn't want to take it just for the sake of taking it. There is a chance it could leave numbness or tingling on that side so unless there is a big need he wants to leave it.

The top left is out but I don't chew with it and it pushes on my other teeth. The top right has a cavity. The bottom left one is partially exposed so its a risk for infection and inflammation from food particles potentially getting in there.

The papers they gave me to read were fairly cut and dry. Takes about 45 min then once I can walk they move me to a recovery room I can leave shortly after. I had an assistant to come in and answer any other questions. I told her about my anxiety (which I get most other people would have anxiety on that day anyhow) and how mostly my issue is with waiting. She said they are very prompt about bringing you back. They will put me on the nitrous which will put me out almost immediately then they numb my teeth and put the iv in. Next thing you know I'll be waking up thinking it hadn't been done yet.

I scheduled it for Friday the 25th. Its at 10:45. I wish it was just a little earlier in the morning but I'll live. I'll just be glad to have this all over and done with!

In the meantime my plan is to just keep sticking to my scheduled exercise and hopefully the Monday following my Friday tooth pull I'll feel well enough to resume some light activity.
