Discouragement and life

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could magically just wish for something and it would be ours? How many of us have thought about this as we grew up?
You know the magic wand really does exist, but you have to wave it at your goal every hour, every minute of the day until you achieve what you want. Where do you find the wand? Well, inside your head. It is the desire and goal setting piece of you that wants something soooo bad that you can't live without it.
For me, my weight relinquishment has been like that. I was fortunate recently to ride in a clinic and the friend I had photograph me caught me just as I passed in front of the mirror. Nice picture, but there is something special about it. For some reason, the "old" me is in it, too. Call it a trick of the mirror, but right behind me is a reflection of a distortion in the mirror that is almost exactly what I used ot look like. Spooky.
I looked at the picture as I was downloading the camera, and thought about how far I've come. Disappointments, yeah. I would love for this magic wand of determination to suddenly work overnight. We all would.
But then I think of all the lessons I have learned as I make this journey. If I had it overnight, I wouldn't have done the 3-day. I wouldn't have learned to enjoy walking. Or Pilates, or yes, even welcome the challenge of my strength training.
I will try to be patient but firm with my inner 2-year old". She has learned that she can, indeed, have those treats she craves, but only occasionally.
So, here's to the next step in my journey!
