So, on the 19th I went to a Rheumy for the first time for RA. The doctor looked me up and down ran blood test and Xrays and then told me I don't have RA but instead something called HEDS (Hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), and I also had to refrain from running and squatting because my knees are to weak and could brake under the pressure. I now have to wear knee braces all day, but I thought, this will be fine I can do this at least I don't have to wear them to bed. Friday the doctor calls to let me know I have to wear a wrist brace at night because my right wrist is worn out. WOW! I felt defeated, Like I couldn't do this.
I told my Mom about what the doctor said and that it was genetic. My mother had no idea what it was so I email her a link about the disease. She IMed me back and told me that my Dad just informed her that he had it. I had so many questions. It turns out when my Dad was 25 he had broke his right knee ( just went out while he was standing) so had to have surgery and they found his ligament were loose so tightened them and sent him on his way. When he was 26 same thing happened to his left knee, that is when the ran test and found he had EDS. My dad never thought twice about it and hasn't been to a doctor since, he didn't even tell my mom about it. She knew he broke his knees but he had always had knee problems.
I now go back to the doctor on the 16th of February to talk more about my option and I am scared it will slow me down in my weight loss. I am just hoping I don't run to the end of my rope and there be a wall standing in my way.
