WHAT THE... You're kidding me!...lol

Friday, March 09, 2012

Seems like it's just one thing after another lately...

I was logging the lab results and came across one I hadn't really paid attention to. No wonder my endocrinologist was asking me when I was next due to see my nephrologist!... My GFR (filtration rate) actually improved, it went up by two points--HURRAY! BUT...

I'm spilling more protein. Basically it means that though my kidneys are filtering better, they are also letting through some protein by-products that aren't supposed to be there. It's one of the first things they look for when they suspect kidney damage... normal is under 30 mg/g, up to 300 is considered "micro-protenuria", and anything over that is "macro-protenuria". Mine is 676. (correction, that should read six seventy NINE...lol) That's more than 20 times the normal... and when I called my nephrologist's office, they are looking for a time slot to get me in NEXT WEEK. Normally it takes about six weeks to get an appointment... and I'm not due until August... hm. Kind of spooky, that.

But I'm not going to sweat it, y'know. Yeah, I think you all know me pretty well by now! LOL I'm pretty calm, I have a lot of plans and ways to cope, and I'll do what I have to. No big deal.

I'm sitting here laughing at my two indoor kitties right at the moment (my favorite coping mechanism, next to SP! LOL) Along with a new iron and ironing board bought today, I brought my groceries home from the outlet (Sam's Club), in a small topless three sided box--the perfect size for just one cat-- which is now upside down on my living room floor, with two adult cats acting like babies, diving into it and onto one another. Quite a "floor show" ! Oh, goodness, it just flipped over, box, cats and all!Didn't slow them down much... emoticon

Life is GOOD!
Be well...

Crocuses aren't out yet... oh well.
... but someone had cyclamens on sale this afternoon in front of a store near my doctor's office, and it made me smile...

I need some doctors like you and the Lady Mary have...that really pay attention to what is happening and working to do something about it. My 24 hour protein spillage was High at 3547mg/24hr -- yep, three thousand five hundred forty seven with the normal range being 50-100mg/24hr and no one seems concerned about it. They said I was throwing a little protein still. My thought was "ARE YOU KIDDING ME???" "A LITTLE!!!" BP high at 210/98 and the new urologist (now not my urologist with his attitude!!!) told me to go to the doctor who has been managing it and let them continue to do so. They let me leave the hospital with that reading. When I asked at what point I should head to the ER, they replied when I get a really severe headache or get extremely dizzy. All I could think of was that at that point I would already be having a stroke. Will not be seeing these people again!!!
Keep enjoying your kitties and their "floor show." They sound like lots of fun. Praying for you that things will be done and worked out quickly. You are in my thoughts and prayers daily.

The kitties sound like the perfect "meditation therapy" you could possibly find! Mine is my furbaby ratties, they make me laugh, they love their life and in return make me learn to love mine more!
Good luck and the Lord be with you at your doctor's visit, you will be in my prayers!
You really are a remarkable person who always makes me remember how incredibly blessed I really am and be grateful I have been able to "meet" a very brave person!

    Dearest Kathy....

Hang in, hang in, hang in.....If you're really, really concerned about the protein spilling...can you go to the ER? ...this way they'll have to start the testing and/or process days earlier.
Of course, you'd want the hospital your nephrologist is affiliated with.
If you think it can wait....dig deep and find your inner 'Kathy'.

Meditainment.com is meditation site I subscribe to. They have dozens of focused meditations...which work for me. They also have a couple that are free! (the Secret Garden is one....) Try it...it relaxes me every time.

Sweet lady - what can I say except I'm sending as many good vibes, good wishes as I can your way. Let the kitties relax you as my Lucy relaxes me. I remember that just the sound of a cat purring lowered my BP instantly!!

Let us know what happens, ok?? We (I)...love and care about you immensely!!

    Love u. Libby

It's fun to watch cats play with a box.

I hope you don't have to go on dialysis already. What was your BUN and Creatinine?

isn't it nice to have docs like that?? get them kidneys in line my sweet you can do it..i thought it would never happen with me but last time all the blood tests were in mid range of normal and the kidneys functioning at a normal level and all other blood work normal..the first time i can EVER remember having no protein in the urine??? wowee i was so pleased for sure..but keeping on the diet as best i can and the nephrologist is thrilled he is happy to take me into classes with him and set me as an example that dispite the poor results they always get there are some lights at the end of the tunnel
    knows i loves you

YIKES! wishing you all the best on your visit with the nephrologist. I wish for you it was sooner, but if it were me, I'd check daily to see if there's any cancellations.

Aren't our furbabies calming???? I used to have fish and loved to watch them. Calming. Now I have my furbaby, Spot the Wonder Dog. He is going to be eleven on April Fools Day (couldn't have planned THAT birthday any better . . . it's so appropriate for him!) Just sitting with him, going for a walk with him, petting him, playing with him . . . I feel myself becoming calm.

Sounds like your kitties are quite a pair!!! LOL

I pray that your endocrinologist will have the wisdom to listen to you next week, and together you will come up with a plan.
I can just visualize the kitty show. When I used to have cats (3 at one time), their favorite time was when I came home from grocery shopping. If an empty bag happened to fall to the floor, it instantly became an amusement park. The thought still makes me laugh.
I went grocery shopping yesterday, and they had huge pots of pansies outside of the store. They were really beautiful, but at $14.99 I just enjoyed looking at them. I tend to break the bank in the produce dept. these days. Our hyacinths are up, and I can see the tight flower heads formed inside the leaves. Since Easter is late this year, they may just be open in time to celebrate.
I hope that this is one of the precious few rain free days in Seattle, or that you just dance in the rain.
