Run to Overcome

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

That sounds like a good title to a book doesn't it? That's because it is. It's a book written by Meb Keflezighi. I've read a few running books and for me the key is getting to know the runner as a person. I already know they are a great runner. I want to know what it took to become that runner. How was their life affected by it is a question that I typically wonder.

I posted my review of the book on another blog almost a week ago, but even now I find myself asking the question, "What do I run to overcome?" Running does improve my health and it makes me feel alive, but is that it? Do I want to inspire others to run? Of course, I do, but that's not the only thing. Is inspiring others enough? As my bro, JMERLAU once said, "I don't do this to just inspire others. I do this to change lives!"

As I embark to change lives, other lives are changed as well. It's like a domino effect. Being positive makes me feel good, but it spreads to those around me and I would think it spreads through them to others.

I recommend "Run to Overcome." My review has a video clip that many of you may have seen before. After reading the book, how you feel about that moment changes. Instead of watching and wondering what Meb is thinking, you know.

What do YOU run to overcome?!

Just finished reading it - great book. Was most impressed by the book, Meb and his family and the fact that the book had questions to ask yourself that followed the book - pretty cool.

    Thought you might like this...

"I run because it’s so symbolic of life. You have to drive yourself to overcome the obstacles. You might feel that you can’t. But then you find your inner strength, and realize you’re capable of so much more than you thought." - Arthur Blank

LOVE Meb! Will have to check this book out. I run to overcome stress and depression! Running is the one thing I truly enjoy and how many people get to say they can do something they enjoy practically every day?! Before the sun comes up, even?!

Great blog, Nick! I am adding this to my list of about 15 books I want to read, like...yesterday. Lol. Thanks so much. I'm on a running book kick right now. And, God knows I am obsessed with the Olympics!!! Haha. Sounds like a perfect book for me!

Meb was at the Tar Heel 10 miler this spring, but I didn't realize such an accomplished Olympian was going to be the guest starter! Wish I had met him.

This is on my Kindle. I'm hoping to get to it soon.
I didn't get to the finish line of the San Jose RnR half marathon last year soon enough to see him win. I had to sit it out but my husband ran.

I am running because all my friends run and they sucked me into their weird runner world...
    Does that count?!
