One more week

Sunday, July 01, 2012

Ok the 1/2 marathon in Missoula is a week from today. I ran (wogged) 4 times last week and my ankle and shoulder hurt, my calves are stiff. So I just walked about 4 miles today. I will get out and wog about 3 or 4 miles tomorrow, then I will just do my workout stuff in the house but nothing too strenuous. I want to be well rested, but still able to do it. What do you all do the week before a race?

I don't jog due to knee problems (tendonitis and they go out of alignment easily), but when I first started walking hilly roads I found that soaking in an epsom salt bath (right after the long walk), massaging my shins and calves, sides of my legs, all really helped to ease what soreness I would have had. Maybe you could try that to help your calves.

Haven't done a marathon - 1/2 or otherwise, but when I did my 5k walk, there suggested, easing back a little before the day. With all the preparation you have done, you will do fine, don't let negative thoughts get in the way of a great time.

You are well prepared for what is coming. Just run smart and don't let the heat get to you.

I wish you no luck, I wish you well. Luck is for the ill prepared.

One think you don't want is to go into this race with an injury or being fatigue. Take it easy - do what you need to do to make sure you are 100% ready so you can do great.

Sounds like you have a good plan.

    Hugs, Sunny

    Hi Debby~
I raced yrs. ago but not now .........
One thing I wondered when yu mentioned your calves were stiff was ....... (Forgive me--not trying to be a 'Buttinsky" or know it all') ........... But as I was 'stricken' with the most horrible foot condition (both feet--Plantar fascitis) ..... I had to go thru gruelling therapy, icing, stretching and more.
My only concern is: Stretching thoroughly before a run or daily period? ........ I'm not suggesting for a second you have this .......... I just would do abt anything to not see a single person ever suffer with this! (Dr. said it was mainly caused from the muscles and tendons 'shortening' and stretching prevents it ............. Ok ......... i'm just sayin ... emoticon

I will not change anything like cut my nails, buy new shoes, or break from my normal plan. I would skip tomorrow then do 4 miles on Tuesday and light cross train Thursday. That's it. Especially if I had a hurting wheel. Just listen to your body.
