Small Steps matter

Monday, April 09, 2007

Well, today has been a better day. Not perfect, but better.

I actually managed to walk 2 laps of the house today with no pain or muscle grabs, and also made some corn bread to go with dinner.

I cling to these small improvements as they show me that even though it feels like things are moving at a snail's pace, progress is being made.

It is that way about my weight loss. I once had someone ask me if the slow pace of my loss bothered me. I had to think about it. Like most of us, I would love to find the magic pill, or formula that would take the weight off in a flash, with a guarantee that I could KEEP it off. But by doing this the long, slow way, I have developed habits that are more healthy and make my job easier to attain my goals. I still have new habits to form, but I find I can handle food better now than ever before.

So being a turtle isn't bad. It is a chance to learn what works, and what doesn't. I get a chance to learn what hungry feels like, what being full feels like. What thirsty feels like. These are important lessons, and ones I will use the rest of my life.
