So Much Rosemary!!!!!! And other bits of my day...

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

Today was a pretty good day!

I got up and politely said hello to the scale, in the hopes that it would be nice-- it was! emoticon I think this next weigh in will feel fantastic!

I did a couple more sets of bicep curls this morning than I usually do, did some jumping jacks since nobody was downstairs, and I added in some lunges to my morning workout. I went on my walk today, too! The temperature was great and I could watch the clouds moving in as I walked. I met the new neigbor's father as he was checking the place out. I was greeted very enthusiastically by a new puppy named "Shug" -short for sugar- as her owner tried to get her to learn how "walking" around a neighborhood works.

When I got back from my walk I started clipping rosemary sprigs... I wasn't sure how much I needed for the little Christmas gift bags, so I just filled up a woven basket and took them inside. Then I rinsed them all off, blotted them dry, and lined them up on baking sheets. If you put the oven on the lowest setting possible, they won't dry out too fast and burn. So I dried the rosemary in the oven, it took about 20-30 minutes for it to be "crumbly to the touch" which I took to mean it breaks easily and separates from the stem... And then I got to strip all the leaves off the stems... Man! handling the green sprigs makes your fingers oily and sticky, but handling the dry ones is even worse! Your fingers get a bit of oil on them, but they also get the dust and dry leaf residue on them! My fingers were coated in no time at all!

And after I stripped the first two pans of rosemary sprigs, I saw how little it amounted to. So I went out and cut another basketfull of sprigs. Luckily my mom's rosemary plants are plenty big! And from everything that I look up, it's okay to cut it back for the winter by about a third.
So two baking pans full of rosemary sprigs at a time, at an average of 25 minutes each... I was in the kitchen all afternoon! But the good thing was that I stood for the whole time rather than sitting down! Woo hoo! Proud of myself for not giving in to laziness!

But MAN! The WHOLE HOUSE smells like rosemary now! I sort of got used to it, but then I ran out to the store for eggs, and when I came back I walked right into a wall of smell when I opened the door... It's a bit ridiculous.

I finished all my 8 glasses of water by dinner time, so I'll be getting extra water in today!
And although I've come in under my calories just a tad, I managed to get into all my other allowances (carbs, fat, and protein). I'm still in the process of figuring out what to eat to get into all my ranges, but I think I did pretty well today! And I have room for a snack if I start getting ravenous later.

I gave in and started listening to my Christmas music today...
I started with Handel's Messiah, went to Beethoven's 9th(it's just a great piece), then to Straight No Chaser's acapella carols. If you haven't heard them, they have both beautiful classic carols, and some really funny carols... Like the Christmas Can Can!

Or their version of the 12 Days of Christmas:

So much fun!

Our bedroom is right above the kitchen, so I've been there when you realize that what you cooked today is going to be with you for a LOT longer than you thought! :) Glad to know that rosemary is so pervasive...I'll use that as my excuse for not being so crafty/creative (rather than just admitting it's because I'm too lazy to do something so neat).
