It's been an interesting two weeks.
I started running just over two weeks ago. I've tried running before, mostly outside, and never managed to get past the first week. It bothered my knees, or I just wasn't committed or....you name it, I probably used it as a reason to stop running. This time I've been running on the treadmill. It's easier on my knees, and since I set the treadmill at a particular speed, it's a lot harder to just "wimp out". I can't begin to express what running has done for me. It's actually changed how I look at myself. I run slow....actually I jog....slowly. I'm really bad at it, truth be told. However....I'm running and I don't care if everyone around me is running faster or longer. I am running. I'm challenging myself each day, to go a little further, a littler longer, a little faster. Sixteen days ago I could barely run for 60 seconds. Yesterday I ran for three minutes. 16 days ago I have never run further than a mile in my entire life. Friday I ran 3.48 miles on the treadmill which was a tenth of a mile more than I ran in the same amount of time the week before, and I took over 90 seconds off the time it took me to manage the first 5K of that distance. I've also found that there is a strong community of runners out there on the web who are more than willing to celebrate my little victories with me, and encourage me when I simply don't want to. It's been a great experience. I'm actually looking forward to my run tonight which I will do AFTER I teach a full day and then go to a three hour class.
Speaking of communities. I re-joined my BL Challenge team after forever off. I'm really excited about it and already looking forward to the spring challenge. Carrie welcomed me back with open arms which meant a lot to me and did a lot for my sense of self!
Final note....nutrition....here is where I need help. I can't seem to get enough protein. I am ALWAYS under my protein and usually by a significant amount. I would love some suggestions!
