So, today, I tried interval training. My doctor recommended it, and I spent some time looking at suggested programs and reading about it. All the evidence does seem to indicate that it does burn more calories.
Some of the programs were for 45 or 60 minutes. I'm not ready to do that much, so I stuck with my usual 30 minutes. Interval training did make the time go by faster, so I may be able to avoid that middle slump.
I was wondering what to use in the intervals and how long each should be, but since our treadmill has an "interval" program, I used it this morning. I was at 2.0 mph for 90 seconds and 4.0 mph for 30 seconds.
Our treadmill isn't programmable, so I have to use the program on there, but I would like to be able to program my own intervals, maybe do some 3.0 mph shifts or some 2.5 mph shifts. I could use a stop watch and then set my speeds manually, and I may try that down the road.
Good start to the week, though, and looking forward to the benefits/rewards of this.
