Honesty day 32: Lessons learned from Sparkpeople

This first month here on sparkpeople has been so wonderful and rewarding from learning how to live a healthier life to the amazing and support people along the way. I have been on this journey of weight lose with sparkpeople over 8 times and I always seemed to fail not because of the system but a lack of discipline and motivation on my part. So this time around I decided to keep a journal and take notes along the way from sparkcoach, the numerous articles I read and all the wonderful advice I receive from sparkpeople members. I plan on taking my list and continuously adding to it so that I can make better choices in life. So without further or do here is what I have learned from Sparkpeople:
*Set 3 goals each week to help you move forward in the right direction. The great thing about this lesson is the goals can range from numerous aspects of your life from nutrition, sleep and hydration to spiritual financial and romance.
*Staying motivated is key and yes I am very guilty of falling off the wagon multiple times. I learned many things can be used as motivators like peep talks, a vision board, quotes, movies, viewing your tracked progress and even reading about others success.
*What has helped me greatly so far in my weight loss journey is making sure that every day I burn off more than I consume. So I make sure to always know what my BMI is so that I can subtract what my daily food intake is from the calories my body burns naturally so I know exactly how much I have to burn during my workouts.
*Biggest tip I learned at Sparkcoach was the only way your healthy choices were going to stick is by fitting your new healthy life style habits into your current life style not the other way around.
*Always plan for success. Plan your meals, workouts and any other activities.
*Whenever you make a goal insure that it contains the fundamentals of "SMART" (Specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and timely.)
* Any movement is better than no movement
*For the best use of a week regarding workouts, make sure your week consist of 3 cardio workouts, 2 strength trainings and 1 one activity of flexibility such as yoga.
*As you continue to learn new habits make sure your home and work adjust as well to accommodate your new habits.
*Always have an alternative way to check your progress beyond the scale. Some ways are checking your overall feelings throughout the week, Analyze if your workouts are becoming easier? And checking to see if your clothes fit better
*Always have 10 healthy snacks on hand in your home to avoid choosing a poor snack
*Lastly and my personal favorite: Whenever you fall off the wagon and take one step back just simply take two steps forward.
