My Wise Pastor Reminded Me....

for those who missed it, I suggest reading my previous blog.
Nothing has changed at SparkPeople since I wrote that blog. I posted my feelings on the comment thread with the picture on SparkPeople's FaceBook page. I decided, obviously, that my commitment to my BLC Resolute Renegades meant that I would see this round through. And I e-mailed SparkGuy expressing my extreme displeasure that SP would take ANY KIND OF POLITICAL stand. I made it clear that, while I was indeed personally angered by SP's support of the Supreme Court's decision regarding marriage, I was more disturbed by SP taking a side on any issue that does not have anything to do with its stated purpose of being a support community for people interested in weight loss/maintenance and other aspects of healthy living. I wish I could tell you that he responded and that it would not happen again. Alas, he couldn't deign to reply.
But while all the uproar was going on, Pastor Bowder made a very astute observation. I cannot avoid all corporations/businesses/organi
zations that take a position I cannot accept. So what would I gain by leaving SparkPeople? My reply would have to be: a big fat nothing.
What could I gain and/or accomplish by staying? Obviously, I would keep the support of my BLC teammies and other SparkFriends. I even found a new team that excites me, thanks to a special lady named Melissa (PRINCSCUP1-2FULL). So now I'm also just beginning "100 Days of Weight Loss by Linda Spangler."
That's what I gain; so what can I accomplish? I can keep SparkPeople from having click on ad. Nope, never!!! I never have much, anyway, but I now simply make a note of something that might interest me and then check out the website on my own. And I can refuse to keep my mouth shut if SP ever takes another stand on a non-health issue.
So, for good or ill, my SparkFriends are stuck with me for while longer....
