A New School Year Begins

Friday, August 07, 2015

Life is changing! We've used this week as a dry run, getting ready for some big Big BIG schedule changes at our house.

For those who don't know, we're a 3-generation family. Paul and me, David and Cassie (stepmom to boys), plus Marshall (7th grade), Erik (3rd), and Sean (K).

The Fulton schools are not as good as they were when we all moved here. Plus, there have been some significant issues peculiar to the middle school. Unfortunately, Marshall will still be at the middle school - but David and Cassie will be very much on top of things this year. David addressed the school board last spring, as did Cassie (and others!). He's also on their agenda for August 12, so they wont be able to ignore the issues like they did until it all blew up last spring. 'Nuff said in that regard for now...

But the decision has been made to remove the younger ones from public school. So I'll be driving about 20 miles each way to have them in our Lutheran school. OUr cars aren't the best, so I plan to stay in Jefferson City all day rather than making two round trips.

Erik and Sean have been in the school's day camp this week, so we could have a dry run on getting out the door in a timely manner, switching to having Cassie take primary supper responsibility, and having me not home all week for any household responsibility besides getting a load of laundry going early on.

I've spent the week figuring out how i'll be spending my days. I'm excited about the possibilities! I'll be joining the Y, so I'll have every reason to be far better a getting in some significant exercise than I have been lately. Jefferson City also has some great walking trails, so I plan to do that during good weather. I'll volunteer for several hours once a week at our Lutheran high school's thrift shop, and once or twice at the school. Monday morning there is a quilting group at church. Never done that, but it's been something of interest for several years. And Paul will keep me company on Wednesdays, so we can both continue going to our Bible study group. I'm also planning to spend at least an hour at the library most days, so I should be better at participating in my most important SparkTeams.

Next week Marshall comes home after having spent the summer at his mother's house in Utah. He won't go for so log other summers, but he'd spent an entire year with us, minus only a week for Christmas and one for spring break. Other than that, it will just be a time for reassessing how this week went, plus getting us all re-acclimated to being a family of 7.

Blessings upon you and them as they start this new year. I have a former coworker, whose grandchildren attend that school.
