There are two distinct meanings attached to "WAKE-UP CALL":
(a) The obvious alarm clock in the morning that, more often than not, rudely
awakens you from a peaceful or enjoyable sleep to start your day.
(b) The more esoteric mental awakening from your regular, if not languid,
everyday life to start down a new road.
Since joining SparkPeople at the end of July 2015 I have experienced both!
You might say everyone experiences (a) however you would be wrong in my case. Due to my brain tumor and chronic pain, I haven't been a "Morning Person" since 2005 and the sound of the alarm wasn't heard.
SparkPeople was the beginning of my (b) experience that has started me down a new path of self discovery. It wasn't one individual area of the site that "sparked" me into a new mental attitude about myself; it was the entirety of it! No matter what I needed (or thought I didn't need) it was there helping me before I could ask for it.
The fact I could blog about things, read other SP blogs and receive feedback and comments from others was new to me as well. This was, if I were to be honest, the true catalyst to my new found mornings and exercise regimen. The camaraderie through comments and likes is so helpful. When I first joined I read several blogs and found them informative and helpful.
It wasn't until I read a blog by ~INDYGIRL that lighting struck! Her story was so inspirational yet relatable on all levels to me. ~INDYGIRL (Beth) barred her soul which touched me. Her blogs "spoke" to me and through them I found inspiration and motivation to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other over 7,500 times a day.
I now wake to my 7:00 am alarm clock to begin my day with exercise and embrace everyday with inspiration and motivation on my path to a healthy new life.
Alarms not only heard, but acted upon -- thank you SP and ~INDYGIRL!
Soon to be WONDER--WOMAN again,
