My Sunday

Sunday, September 04, 2016

Today has proven to be a much better day than yesterday and I'm very happy about that. Yesterday strained my patience muscle! I realize that I have so many things to be grateful and also that there are people out there who have real problems - but all those little things hitting at the same time took it's toll.

Tom and I went to church this morning - not something we have been doing on a regular basis. I was raised Lutheran, he Catholic. We are members of a Lutheran church up here but the people are rather stiff, the services pretty much the same week to week, and they don't have many opportunities for people like us beyond Sunday mornings. I have attended a few of the Women's Bible Studies offered that I have really enjoyed. Everyone is so friendly and caring - a little bit like the Spark community. I believe it's base beliefs are Baptist but having never gone to a true Baptist church I have no idea how closely tied they are. I do know that this church (Grace Fellowship) is connected to the church my daughter's family attend in Roanoke (City Lights).

We decided to go to the later service, another first for us. We get up early enough to make the first service but we do have our routines in the morning - for me it's getting my Daisy walk in first thing. They introduced a new worship pastor this morning and I thought; my goodness, pastors these days have to be able to sing, play the guitar, jump around and have a ton of enthusiasm! It was more entertaining than a concert. The youth pastor did a video announcement of upcoming events - another person with more energy than I have seen in forever. The message was delivered by a gentleman who immigrated here from Nigeria several years ago, graduated from the University of Minnesota, who works as an outreach elder with this church - he was amazing. I think it's fair to say we'll try it again!

We had lunch and then Daisy and I went out to weed the herb garden. Honestly, in the past 4 days I have pulled at least 9 laundry baskets full of weeds. How is it possible that the weeds are thriving when the plants aren't doing all that well? I did get to see a cute little caterpillar but when I went back to take a photo I couldn't find it. There are storms coming, you can feel it in the air. It's getting humid again and the mosquitos are out full force. I'm done for today and wouldn't be too disappointed if it rained tomorrow so I couldn't go out again - but actually, I probably will give myself a day off. I've gotten a lot of the outside work done

I hope everyone is having a great Sunday today and that you are finding ways to care for yourself today!

I'm happy you found a church and a service you feel good about. We all profit from some good old spiritual reinforcement. I was brought up Southern Baptist and DH was brought up Catholic. Since my adopted grandma and grandpa were the pastor and the pastoress of the church I went 4 times a week as a kid. Monday night prayer meeting, Tuesday night bible study, then Sunday morning bible school and Sunday evening church.

I know what you mean about weeds...they are every where and grow like a house a fire! Good on you for the yard work and the gardens...it's SUCH hard work...my daddy was a farmer early on and even after he became a grade school Principle he always had a garden to putter around in. I used to help with the weeding and harvesting...wow...as I said a LOT of work! emoticon

I'm happy your day was calm and happy...I'll take calm and happy ANY day! emoticon

I'd rather have lively than stiff any day. I hear you on the little things adding up to get to you. You did better than I did at coping this weekend. Glad today was better.

What a lovely Sunday, well spent. Tomorrow I am getting a smog check (hopefully they will be open) and then working for a couple of hours. Need to go to Bath and Beyond, they have fabulous runners and I want one for my Shabby Chic Client. She has two sinks in one of her guest bathroom and I want a very decorative runner for front of the sinks to bring a very "beige" bathroom alive! A colorful area runner will do the trick.
I must remember to take photos darn it! I forget all the time!

I am cooking my veggies (steam in') and Lucy Lou is snoring gently in the kitchen as I walk over her to do my thing. She is so relaxed and content here. Sigh!

Have a lovely evening my dearā€¦kisses to you know who. Oh, did I tell you about JOEY, my girlfriend who met this beautiful but so messed up Golden at the Homeward Rescue For Goldens yesterday? If not let me know and I will tell you about her adventureā€¦.Amazing stuff.

What a lovely post! We are enjoying a new church (last 2 times ) & think we have finally found our home. We are Catholic and this is a mission church so we have different priests every Sunday. It is refreshing and I feel Christ there again- finally.
