Day #235 of my adventures in Spark Land walk an extra mile

Day #235 here in Spark Villa!

Slow down. (comes from the pin from pinterest a therapist prescription for better mental health)

When I saw that, a bunch of songs floated through my head at first. Then some other stuff popped up. I never did learn the value of slowing down. In the world I grew up in, slow was a evil word. A few years ago I was reading in a parenting book the value it is in a kids world to do things slow at their pace and not ours. We asked them to do something and it's just faster for us to do it yet kids develop a lot of things (I forgot what all) by doing things at their pace,in their time, their way. My mom hated slow. To her the faster the better. Looking back, faster isn't always better yet in her world it was. You did things at her speed, her way, and her timing, every meal came out of the micro/instant, yep she even drove fast. Even my dad's brother talked too slow for her and told his stories too slow for her. Now that she has passed, I realize the value of slow. I think there is a plus in slowing down and enjoying life!

Now you can kind of see why I never learned self-care. In my world, self care was slowing down. I have to say when I started to slow down, etc. I found a wonderful joy I had never felt inside and also inter peace. I love it and want it all the time. Anyhow from the pin '50 ways to practice self care' from pinterest #15 is go outside, lay on your back, and watch the sky. Well it is very wet out there today-lol! I have attempted to do that in the past and got board. But going from a fast pace world to looking at the sky would be boring.

My challenges:

1) 28 day Fall back into Fitness Challenge with Jessica Smith. Today is day # 24. It is 15-minute lunge free lower body. It was a new one on me but I liked it.

2) Home.work.Play Challenge. I am to walk an extra mile.I decided to stick with Jessica and did 1 mile wake up and walk power walk.

3) Declutter your home in a year (I found on pinterest) My mission today is declutter under and in between coach cushions-done. Now I know why I never follow through with this challenge last year. It went at a slow pace and I am use to a fast pace. Slow and steady my home looks and feels wonderful. Thinking of doing flylady at the end of this challenge and not repeat this challenge.

I've been doing my status updates from the Things to do when you are down on pinterest. Under engage your brain column I have not touched on yet: write a story-my life is dynamic enough. I don't need to write a story-lol; learn a new skill-I am learning to cook; visit a book store or library-I do that; plan something-plan a good weekend with my son; read a good book-I need to get back into doing that; journal-blog is like journal right?

87 days until son's winter break. Yesterday I relaxed and watched Hawaii five O on Netflix. And took naps! Today's Fall Fun I am going to work on my son's scrap book-June of 2013. I am working on my creative side today! I am also watching Sabrina the teenage witch season 7 Disc 1. This is the last season!

    I, too, have had to learn to slow down. It's not that I was made to feel rushed as a kid, but I was so sensitive to everything around me, I felt it on my own by little things that people did or hints they made. I always tried to do things as fast as I could. Some of it was anxiety-related too. It's tough to slow down and I often have to keep reminding myself to do so even now, but life is a little easier and less-rushed now!

    There is a lot to be said for slowing down. I have a tough one with that, but remember lying on a picnic bench watching the sky- and seeing the clouds and trying to figure out what each on looked like. That turned out to be a lot of fun!

    There is joy and even power in slowing down to enjoy life! Maybe when the weather is nice again you can lay back and look at the clouds without getting bored! I was thinking today was lower body! I'm going to try and do Friday's workout tomorrow too so I won't miss it on our long ride! You've done great!
