A Thoughtful Breath

Wednesday, December 06, 2017

Many may not see the beauty in these lifeforms, but I sure do. Many times while hiking, it's the little things that intrigue me the most. Mushrooms, lichens, moss sprouts, etc.. These organisms, they breathe. You find them in unusual places, in hard to reach places. They survive, they breathe. The diversity in ecosystems across this planet provide us with so much for our senses to grasp. I'm thankful and grateful that I have lived all over this world and I've been blessed to experience so much of what nature gives.

Moss sporophytes! It's the stage of their lifecycle where they reproduce by making spores. It's their version of flowers.

Lichens are organisms that form as a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungus.

Polypore - Trametes versicolor - sometimes called "turkey tail" and comes in many colors. One of the most common mushrooms anywhere there are dead, hardwood logs.

I'm so grateful that my feet can still take me to where my senses can refresh. Take me to where my mind and body can rid itself of the pollutants of this world. Take me to where I can see, hear, taste, and feel the natural diversity of God's planet and just ...... Breathe!

I love how lichen relieves the landscape at this time of year when so much of the vegetation is dormant, the variations in colours are amazing! Thanks for sharing, it's our connection to the natural world that is so important for our health. Happy hiking! emoticon emoticon emoticon
