New Year - New Actions

New actions meaning activities! I got a super good deal through my insurance company to join a gym network and I only had to commit to three months! I can tell you right now I am not a fan of any indoor exercise. However, I thought that this was too good to pass-up. I can go to quite a few different gyms in my area and other places as well.

The weather has been pretty brutal lately here in PA and I have severe asthma, the two don't mix well. I thought maybe, just maybe I should try something different and be kind to myself. I am looking at this as a wonderful gift that I can either embrace or hate, today I choose to embrace.

I gathered my clothes and I plan on going to the gym right after work today. I am not sure what exactly I will need or want to wear or take with me, but I am starting today and will just suck it up and deal with whatever. Trial and error. Maybe I got this today and maybe I don't, but I am going either way and I am exercising either way. I will learn from it as the days go by and soon I will know exactly what I need to carry with me. (Besides the inhaler)

Anyway, I am putting this in writing more for myself to be accountable today. I will report on my experience later. But first I have to get a flat tire taken care of. Ugh. At least the flat happened while I was in a safe and warm place.

Edited to add Gym Report - I did it! I spent a little over an hour and used the treadmill, rowing machine, elliptical and bike. I didn't want to do too much of any specific machine, I'm trying them to see what I like the best and how I feel using them. I had a nice view of the sunset while rowing and biking as a reward! I might be able to live with this. It helps that the weather is just brutally cold and windy. Yes! I will be happy with the gym today.

    That is great that you've joined a gym. Like you I like being outdoors, but the gym gives us all sorts of options. Gyms and I weren't friends until I started in on cardiac rehab and for some reason (maybe the desire to not have another heart attack....?) it all clicked. Last January I joined a new gym and while I was hesitant at first now I love, love, love it.

    The gym has so many options from the cardio machines, to classes to meeting new friends. The classes especially have really challenged me and I'm much stronger. When it's nice I still like to walk outside; having the gym means on days like today (cold, windy & snowy) I can get in a good workout.

    You got this!! I understand weather issue. I am in NE Ohio , we are getting hit with snow again and of course cold. I thought about a gym if the hours worked better for me. One day at a time. Do it!!
